AppleInsider folks, I really don't recall Apple every implementing any feature that they patented long ahead of a release, can you? These patents cover thinking territory, but like a lot of companies, Apple patents ideas they consider potentially lucrative or that would infringe on realms of thinking they've explored so they can later enforce and benefit monetarily. I'm happy to be proven wrong, but my experience is that just because Apple registers a patent doesn't mean they're "planning" to do anything with the patent themselves as your headline declares.
