    Not to be that guy, but, 

    "You can use free apps such as Eve Home or Home+ to create these more complicated actions. Otherwise, the Home app is limited to running a scene or controlling multiple accessories with a button press."  

    Untrue.  Within the native Home App, a single press of a button can trigger a HomeKit shortcut.  For example, while within the Home app, choose the button you'd like to act as a toggle switch.  On the next screen, where you would normally choose the single action the button can perform (turn off the light, set a scene, etc), scroll all the way down and you'll find "Convert to Shortcut".  The shortcut can then be configured to run "if / otherwise" commands.  "If Kitchen Light is on, Set Kitchen Light On.  Otherwise, Set Kitchen Light Off."
