Apple Watch ECG detects heart condition in German woman
jcbigears said:bloodshotrollin'red said:jcbigears said:Makes me furious that we still don’t have this feature active in Australia. There’s no reason for it not to be as once a medical device is FDA approved its a “tick the box” form for it to be approved here by our TGA.
The CE Mark is a statement of conformity regarding the physical safety of the item being marketed, and is equivalent to the FCC., i.e., Materials used, fire-hazard, toxicity and such. The CE mark in no way represents acceptance as a medical device recognised to have been subject to numerous statistically valid and peer-reviewed clinical trials for use in clinical observations. In the EU Apple have to state clearly that the AppleWatch is not able to reliably detect cardiac abnormalities, nor can it be used diagnostically. The way to detect cardiac abnormality is via a multi-lead ambulatory analyser a patient wears for 24-48 hrs. One-off hospital tests will not necessarily detect subtle electrical abnormalities.
The FDA lets any old tat "pass" regulation as it is capitalised by pharma and "Industry Insiders". You really need to watch the documentaries made about the seriously dangerous rubbish frequently FDA approved and imposed on US citizens... Oh, for one... Heard of synthesised oxycodone from Thebaine? An opioid drug first synthesized in Germany in 1916 and considered far too dangerous by German physicians for prolonged patient use is given FDA approval in the 70's (I think); a thoughtful decision which has led to around 1,000,000 US casualties and fatalities. In 1945 US companies stole millions and millions of German chemical patents which have since generated disgustingly unethical profits for US Pharma. -
Review: Sonos One brings high fidelity to smartspeakers
Would appleinsider writers please stop using the words "High Fidelity" unless they fully understand what the term means. There is no way on Earth this Sonos One speaker nor an Apple HomePod will ever produce High Fidelity audio. Never, never, ever...
Audio is governed by the laws of physics, so no small container filled with loudspeakers will ever produce low frequencies at high amplitude A human ear (commonly) hears wavelengths down to 20Hz, a listeners body can feel frequencies lower than 20Hz but they cannot hear them.
I would hazard a guess from each Sonos One or HomePod enclosure (speaker) size (as seen) they will have crossover circuitry which will roll off steeply at 120-100Hz...they may reach 80Hz but the amplitude will be considerably lower (quieter) than those above the crossover rolloff frequencies aforementioned.
A High Fidelity loudspeaker will produce a flat frequency response across the entire audible range of 20Hz - 20kHz. That is, for a given level of amplification no part of the frequency range will appear to be or indeed will be louder or quieter than preceding or succeeding frequencies.
As sound is simply modulated heat, it will take until some genius manages to create the technology to sufficiently heat coincident focal points in the air of your living-room directly with lasers in such a way the heat can be modulated to produce even amplitude sound from the lowest discernible frequencies to the highest. That tech will be a long time coming.
Meanwhile appleinsider contributors STOP LYING TO YOUR READERS and TREAT THEM AS INTELLIGENT CONSUMERS. -

Woman sues Apple for hosting 'gambling apps' after spending thousands on in-game currency
I've always been opposed to gambling and was ashamed to see a socialist "New"Labour Government remove restrictions and allow advertising. Children went hungry, wives/partners were beaten, Social Benefit payments were soaked up by gambling operators who were the only businesses left open and profitable on High Streets throughout those poorer areas of Britain. A Tax levied on the poorest which was given without question to British Banks which had no right to survive the collapse of world economies.
Gambling is an obscured taxation which punishes the poor and the ill educated sections of our societies. Apple should not be a part of such fleecing, especially when it can pay accountants and lawyers to aide in paying the least possible tax. -

You all know everything dies, yet millions of you; ...defend your "right" to bear arms, ...support Capital Punishment ...go outdoors and kill or maim wildlife on a whim... help cause untold misery in third-world countries where our planets poorest get to live short, wretched lives clawing minerals from their soil in the destructive process of providing you with products you don't really need. So, it's bloody amusing when those of you get so yippity-yuppety about a woman or a man's choice to terminate a pregnancy; grounds for which may be myriad and often in the interests of the zygote. 75% of American's cling to a totally unprovable belief that some god, thought up by Pagan Semites just a few moments ago, equivocally divines how and when all life both begins and ends. Yet, of the incontrovertible fact this same god terminates countless more zygotes than his creations could ever do, you don't question his morality.
Nothing should ever be censored. Tim Cooke, a gay man, should know that. -
France shames Apple for not sacrificing user privacy for COVID-19 app

Apple engineers dish on no macOS for iPad & why 11-inch model didn't get mini-LED
One could tolerate Steve Jobs telling lies...but to hear two lowly tech guys spout patronising trash wrapped in lies is simply laughable. The former had vision, the two techs rely on rear view mirrors and left/right indicators.
