The 12.9" size is pretty unwieldy for a handheld device. It may make some kind of sense for the Pro model due to its other capabilities, but I have a hard time seeing the attraction of a bigger screen Air. At that point I’m reaching for my laptop instead.

The key question is: what will be the device hardware requirements for AI aided services?

For instance my iPhone XS is the oldest that can run the current iOS 17, so it may well not be supported by iOS 18. While my XS still works well — even the original battery! — and does everything I want it to, I may be prodded to upgrade by the availability of useful AI.

Since nobody here has yet laid eyes, much less hands, on the new Mac mini, none of these complaints have any validity.

Considering how inexpensive both these devices are, would it be too much to expect an actual test rather than this rote spec comparison?

Regarding their aesthetics, the AppleTV is the obvious winner. However I see no reason to put either of them (and their trailing cables) on display, since they’re remote controllable via Bluetooth. My ATV lives and happily works inside a cabinet.

I too wish Apple would do that. While there's no direct commercial benefit in it for Apple, I think there's some good karma to be had, and for minimal resource expenditure.

ETA: On the other hand, Apple's whole boot security model has become pretty complex and obscure, at least as viewed from the outside. Its inner workings are not designed or intended to be public, and I imagine there's been no line drawn to demarcate what we're allowed to know from what we aren't. The line is more like a circle, with only Apple inside. So maybe the necessary resources to change and police that would not be minimal?
