iPhone 15 Pro Max rumored to be only model that gets new periscope lens tech
techconc said:I really hate it when Apple makes features for just the Max sized phone. I don't care about the price, I just don't want to carry a phone that big. I'm due for an upgrade and I'd love to see this feature in the regular iPhone 15 pro.First world problems much? -
TSMC US chip production may soon only be three years behind Taiwan
avidthinker said:9secondkox2 said:While I am no fan of Joe Biden or his administration, he was wise to recognize that Trump did a good thing by getting TSMC to manufacture here. The Chips (and Science) Act was very helpful in increasing what TSMC wanted to do originally and see the work actually begin. Credit to both administrations on that front, and a very special mention of McCaul, Matsui, Cornyn, and Warner for coming up with it and introducing it in 2020. It may not be everything it should have been, but it was a good catalyst for better to come in the future.
That said, I doubt TSMC wants to ever have US manufacturing exactly on par with Taiwan, considering they want to maintain their value in the eyes of powerful allies as a buffer against Chinese invasion/hostilities/takeover, etc. They'd be glad to take the money though.
Having TSMC in the USA is great. Would be even greater if the USA companies like Intel could figure out how to leap ahead and become something special again. But then again, they'd probably get full of themselves and start pricing fabs for companies like Apple into the stratosphere... But American companies like Intel were what was mainly on the minds of the creators of the Chips and Science act. What has Intel actually done with the money? Who knows. The expansions it provides for is supposed to create more jobs someday...
It IS possible for the USA to get competitive with other nation's manufacturing. But it takes the will to begin and see it through hard times. It's a tough ask, but like anything else, if there's a will, there's a way. I do believe cultural work ethic has a ways to go in America before we can catch up to other countries, let alone exceed them.
Right now TSMC has the edge. How long will that last? It seemed Intel had the edge forever and a day, with some heel biting and occasional leapfrogging from AMD. But then TSMC came along and changed the game. Would be great to see them keep it up, but this kind of tech is a breakneck speed kind of thing. Sooner or later, TSMC may have to forgo national ideals in order to stay ahead. Hopefully Taiwan allies have the integrity to stand up for the country if/when china decides to get (even more) uppity. -

Microsoft blew $8.5 billion on Skype only to spend 14 years killing it
sconosciuto said:Teams is a hot mess. Zoom is vastly superior in every way.
and yet… the IT people at my very large institution have guzzled the Redmond Flavr-Aid and are doing all they can to kill use of Zoom and cram Teams down everyone’s throats. They seem to think Zoom and Teams are interchangeable videoconferencing solutions which is hilarious coming from people who are paid to understand technology. They actually consider Zoom to be a toy and Teams to be a professional solution 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Very fortunately our c-suite people love Zoom.

Samsung buys Harman for $8B in deal that could pave way for 'Apple Car' competition
spice-boy said:How do you compete against something that does not exist?
I would suggest leaving the investing to your broker. Ever thought of looking forward? Plus the article uses the word: "could." This means possibly or a chance of. As in currently not the case but it is obvious where the big tech companies are heading in the automotive industry. -
Apple AirPort Extreme claims top marks in consumer-grade wireless router survey
I was in the market for a new router about 2 months ago. Mine was frequently having operational issues. I almost bought an Apple router but finally elected to get a different brand. Glad I didn't buy an Apple if they will no longer be making them; I figured I would give this one to my brother and by an Apple router once they released a new one. Looks like I will not be doing that. My house is going to start looking less Apple-like in the future.
After electing to get the iPhone 7 because of the carrier promotions, my iPhone has crashed more times than any new iPhone I have ever owned (3G,4,5,6+). More so than my S7 for work. Generally, I am just using native iOS applications. Seems to be improving of late but Apple really seems to be getting sloppy. Just my mileage. -
Apple activates iPhone 6 Plus repair program to address 'touch disease'

Phil Schiller: New MacBook Pro has more orders from Apple than any other pro model ever
The next couple of years are going to be interesting for Apple. Their drive for thin products is getting ridiculous.
The Touchbar strikes me as something like the S7 Edge. Not convinced it is a groundbreaking new UI that I would use, unless I decide to like Emojis.....
Your mileage may vary.
Not to mention a user couldn't connect their 1 month old iPhone 7 (+) to this laptop without a dongle. Not to mention SD cards, USBs, HDMIs....... I totally understood DVI, VGA, Cd drive, and MAYBE Ethernet but no HDMI? Every projector I have seen in the last 4 years uses HDMI; you know, what "professionals" do with laptops. The included port is why I bought the mid-2012 retina.
Apple needs to get their interface connections in order. It is sloppier than I have ever seen it with poor consistency. If they are going to cold turkey USB-C on their products, the iPhone 7S/8 better go that way as well.
Of course, Apple apologist will find some reason that Apple is prefect.
