  • Editorial: No WSJ, Apple isn't stuck in China

    DED,

    TL; DR

That says more about you than the article.  Thanks for the insightful comment though.

Frankly, I can’t read any more of his fanboy essays.

We didn't forget it. However, given its limitations, it isn't as commonly used as what we've listed above.

Perhaps in a few years, but not now. And, that's assuming that Google doesn't kill it before then.
It's interesting you should say this. My son's school started distance learning as of today (since the schools are closed), and they are using Google Classroom exclusively. It works really well. They are conducting live lessons via web cameras over Google Classroom's Google Meet.

  • Apple explored iPhones and iPads that dock inside larger devices like MacBooks

Surely this is a concept from twenty years ago. What’s the point of wasting the space when any connectivity can be wireless.
The point is to use the iPhone as the trackpad, the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth clients, and the computer. Docking the iPhone would change the apps from the iOS mode to the macOS mode. Undocking the phone would change the apps back to the iOS mode.

You need at least 20 Gbps to be able to push video wirelessly, which is not possible with today’s technology.

Docked phone would become the foundation of the MacBook, and Apple would be able to justify a higher price of the phone because a phone and a relatively inexpensive dock would equal a MacBook.

This is my idea of 3 years ago, of which I wrote extensively in several Apple centric forums. I should have patented it then.

  • Apple launches $350 iPad keyboard amid pandemic-fueled recession

No AppleInsider, full mouse and trackpad support does not ‘turn the iPad into a laptop’.
Says who? It's a computer, it sits in your lap. That's a laptop computer.

Funny that as the capabilities of the iPad increase, the supposed requirements for what a computer is also increase. (Ignoring that the original DOS PCs or Macintosh couldn't meet many of those requirements either! lol)

Wouldn't it be better to drop 4K resolution to 1080p instead of screwing with compression?
    1) Where are you getting "screwing with compression"? Are you reading into things again?

    2) Netflix creates multiple tiers for their content when they obtain it. This could mean is they're not allowing 2160p (or 1080p) content at all (as this would result in a lower number of bits per second being transmitted (i.e.: bitrate).
Do you know what a bitrate in a codec is? Genius?

Do you like your Mac? Would you like one of the latest MBPs? If so, then quit complaining and buy one and use it. If not, then go find a Windows PC and see it that satisfies your urge to waste your time fixing things instead of being productive.
    Oh burn!!!

I've never seen it stated it better.  While I dont agree with many of the changes to the new MBP.  I realize this is what Apple has always done.  They have always been expensive.  They have always been controversial in dropping legacy ports/devices.  They have always had proprietary dongles, cables and devices.

But you know what else Apple has always done?  Always delivered the most stable desktop OS and rock solid software.  Always built robust, quality products that outlast, outperform and hold their value much better than their competitors.  Always provided an unmatched user experience.

So this 2016 MBP w/TouchBar presents potential buyers with a choice that so many previous Apple products have done.  Do you more money for the product from the company who has built a reputation of "just working"?  Or do you save some bucks, choose a competitor.. and probably end up seriously regretting a few months later.. as you find out exactly the competition costs less and creates more headaches.
Mini display port and/or HDMI will
be back in the next generation unless they cannot fit the ports on the side of the body because of how thin the body is. I suspect the MagSafe will be back too. They tried to kill FireWire a few years ago but due to an outcry they brought it back for a few more years.

  • New 13" MacBook Pro w/o Touch Bar keeps pace with higher clocked 2015 Retina model

As it stands now, not a single MacBook Pro released today is priced within reason for the majority of Apple customers.
    How do you know that?
Because I have been one for many years. I can easily afford any of the new MacBook Pro, but I'm in the upper 5% of earners in the US. Even though none of the newly released MacBook Pros would make a noticeable dent in my budget, I will not be buying any model released today if they stay at the current price points. Apple has insulted their consumer base with these prices and the asinine design decisions that prevent the newly released iPhone 7 from being able to connect to the newly released MacBook Pro without an additional dongle, which Apple was too cheap to include with the MacBook pros.

I'm extremely upset about what Apple did today as a shareholder with a very sizeable AAPL portfolio (very sizable indeed). They will lose the notebook market share by a large percentage because of the bad decisions that they made with this MacBook Pro release.
I wouldn't get all in a frenzy just yet. Apple has, in the past, dropped prices on Mac models after being on the market for about a year. Perfect example is the MBA, & 27" Retina iMac. So let's see what happens. There's a slight chance that by this time next year, prices on these new MBP & MB machines will drop by $200.

if they do this in a year, it will be too late. And the prices should drop by $400 - at least - to be reasonable. Apple was trying to preserve high profit margins, but they are going to lose both revenue and profits by chasing high profit margins in these Late 2016 MacaBook Pros.

Im not even going to bring up the asinine concept of having to carry multiple dongles to connect devices to the new MacBook Pros. Why didn't Apple put a Lightning port in the MacBook Pros so the iPhone  7 headphones could be used with these new MacBook Pros? Why didn't Apple include a USB-A-to-USB-C adapter with the MacBook Pros so that folks could connect their iPhones to these MacBook Pros? All of these really strange design decisions aside, the pricing of the Late 2016 MacBook Pros is preposterous.
