  • Facebook sued over illegal collection of user data

I have no line for Facebook and all of the plaintiffs claims may be true but are they illegal? I have no idea. Is there a law that says companies must abide by user preferences or something similar?
You raise a good point about the state of US privacy law, particularly in comparison to the EU's GDPR.  US privacy law is sector based and offers very specific protections (like HIPAA covering medical information in many contexts) as opposed to the broad and general protection of GDPR that is focused on the private information.

In the US, the Federal Trade Commission can go after a company for violating their own posted policies as "unfair and deceptive acts and practices"  even if the privacy information didn't have other specific legal protection.

The law is the FTC Act, see Section 5.  federal-trade-commission-act

  • Windows XP can partially run on Vision Pro hardware in emulation

For some reason?  Because it's funny and cool!  Obviously running Windows XP on a $3500 headset isn't something many people are aching to do but it's a very cool proof of concept.  Back in ye olde day, some folks got MAME running on a digital camera.  Why?  Because how cool is that?!

  • Apple will frame iPhone 15 USB-C switch as a consumer win

It would have happened sooner or later, even without EU pressure.
And who gives a damn?  This was supposedly intended to benefit the environment?  And how does it do that?  Another bunch of stuff is rendered prematurely obsolete and gets trashed.  The USB-C connector will itself be obsolete in due time and the EU bureaucrats will make sure it stays in use well past that time.

  • Apple's 'Mother Nature' sketch was a complete dud, and didn't belong in the iPhone 15 even...

I didn't think the Mother Nature skit was filler.  I thought the whole event was filler because the devices introduced had minor feature updates that don't match up to the marketing hyperbole at all.  Does any consumer really care how many transistors comprise the phone's CPU or what kind of foil the battery is wrapped in?  They're very good devices and so are the ones that preceded them.

I find Apple's pre-recorded presentations to be overproduced and not fun to watch.  The transitions have annoying music and are much too long.  The locations where the presenters speak are distracting.  The crazy boring minutiae that are hyped to the point of exhaustion . . .   The presentations used to be pretty exciting.  Granted that Apple often had only incremental updates to introduce and still hyped minor stuff but the presentations were pretty straightforward and to the point and often enough there was . .  one more thing . . . that was exciting.

I was watching the stock price go UP during the Mother Nature presentation! Critics will be critics.
So which part of the presentation caused the stock to end DOWN $3 for the day?

You must have been watching some other stock because AAPL was up slightly at the market open and from a few minutes after the open it was down the ENTIRE DAY.   When the event started, AAPL was down about $1 and went steadily down about another $3 over the following hour.  A bit after 2 the stock recovered slightly before falling again.  I stopped watching the event at 2 after the Mother Nature skit so I can confidently and correctly say that AAPL was not going up at all during that bit.

  • Spotify re-signs Joe Rogan in deal that includes return to Apple Podcasts

Great, a new torrent of misinformation just in time for election season.
You’d think people would get enough misinformation from the New York Times and the Washington Post that they wouldn’t need a new torrent.

  • Epic's Tim Sweeney is mad about Apple's EU App Store concessions

Wow.  There's probably almost as many zeroes in that Epic boardroom as there are on that check Sweeney has to write to Apple for their legal expenses.

  • A software engineer wore Apple Vision Pro to his wedding, much to his new bride's chagrin

Am I correct in thinking that the new iPhones also capture spatial video?  Couldn't SOMEONE ELSE be capturing the video?  He won't need the video because if the marriage lasts, his wife will NEVER let him forget what a clown he was.

  • Apple denies spying on Russia for the US

After this gizmodo.com/apple-iphone-ipad-privacy-problems-data-gathering-1849855092/slides/8 can Apple be trusted with any representation of privacy ... ?

Actually, that slide indicates that Apple is not sharing our information with advertisers but is instead aggregating user information to provide the advertiser with useful information without sharing the details.

That may still be more than you are willing to share, but it isn't a scandal.  I figured this out using an age-old technique called "reading."
