Smircle: I have seen quoted many times recently that PowerPC is a 64-bit architecture with a 32-bit off-shoot. There is provision for a temporary 32->64-bit bridge architecture (as used in 970). But that it is definately a temporary bridge.

Hopefully this is true (as the reports from the US- via. MacNN suggest it might be). I wonder if the Apple Education (I can get a discount 'cos I work at a University) supply lines are going to fill soon too...
