Finally, I re-ripped the song for the third time using 192kbps AAC CBR (previously VBR). And it's all fine and dandy on both iTunes and iPod now. Thanks for the suggestions!

Ok, I've tested the same file with iTunes5 Windows and on a friend's nano, and all is fine. I will try re-ripping at a different bit rate next. Thanks for the suggestion.

Well, I'm glad to know that this is a known problem, but still hope that there is a solution. It's a song I like unfortunately The song plays fine on iTunes 5.0.1 (same version) on both my PMG5 and TiBook (same OS). Trying to find another iPod I…

Crap. I knew I should mention that I re-ripped the song (using error correction too) but somehow forgot to mention about it while posting the earlier message. But yes, I re-ripped the entire CD and it's still the same song that craps up. Funny thing…

Anyone? I know Tiger does not yet have resolution independent UI and I don't expect the UI to scale. But surely, setting 100% on Preview.app should scale the PDF or image to actual physical size? How can Apple software still assume a display size…

PDFs are not always compressed themselves, but compressing them is often difficult. If it is PDF compression you're after, you might want to try the "ColorSync Utility" located in "Applications > Utilities". There is a neat function to compress P…

Chikara, I think Ensign Pulver wants to know whether you're referring to iPod nano or iPod (normal) Photo. In any case, I'm still with my 2nd gen iPod, so I won't be able to answer your question!

Update: It seems that Photoshop has a bug in its View > Print Size command... http://www.digitalmastery.com/compan...e/psuser51.pdf But still, what about other applications?

In my experience, Firefox 1.5 Beta 1 is highly stable already. Some extensions may not work yet until developers update it, but if you were using Safari anyway, you've got nothing to lose. Thumbs up! Hop over to Mozillazine to grab third party, C…

If all else fails, you can start the system while holding command+option+o+f (for Open Firmware). At the prompt, type "eject cd" without the inverted commas. Good luck!

If you plan to do an erase and install, then iPhoto will be gone. Make a backup copy first and then copy the program over. It should still work (though I haven't tried it).

No problems on PMG5 dual 2GHz and TiBookG4 550MHz.

These things wear and tear. Just use it as normal and enjoy your new LCD!

I should add that you might not want chmod 777 if you don't want write access from Samba. But, remember that there's an extra layer of protection from Samba. So, you can have UNIX writable (777), but the Samba daemon can still refuse external users …

As far as I know (and I could be wrong), the Samba server acts just like another user on the machine. If you're sharing your home directory, the Samba user cannot access it as it does not have enough permissions to do so (UNIX permissions are blocki…

You'll want an enclosure that connects to your iMac using either Firewire or USB2.0. There are enclosures that do both, so you might want to look into those as well. Internal to the enclosure, most are connected using IDE cables, that is, non-SAT…

LCDs will dim over time as the backlight gets weaker. It is possible to replace them, but it can be a fairly expensive exercise. Besides, by the time you want them replaced, there could be richer color, faster refresh rates, etc with new models As …
