  • I've heard that the PB checks up on RAM at Start-Up so if you have a good amount of RAM, it'll take some time. In any case, I rarely shut down my PB, preferring to go into SLEEP mode.

  • No. The new AL PBs don't support DVD+R; I wish they did though... DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RAM are competing DVD once-recordable standards that confuse the heck out of most people. Then there's DVD-RW and DVD+RW: the re-writeable versions. I'm told t…

  • The AL outer covering is more resistant to scratches but I always felt that if my notebook didn't have any scratches, I wasn't really using it that much. It's kinda like a good leather sofa/chair - the scratches are part of the outer 'decor...'
  • I'm also a newbie. I would think that iTunes would only download songs that you didn't already have so, no, I don't think you would get duplicates. I just found out that I can't transport music from my iPod to another powerbook; that's kinda bad…
  • I'm not sure what all the hullabaloo is about the 'gap' on the outer parts of the LCD lid. I'm new to APPLE and the gaps I see on the outer edges of my 15" AL PB, I've seen in countless Wintel notebooks (DELL INSPIRONS, LATITUDES, etc.); and this i…
  • BTW, the latch works fine, and no white smudges (at least I can't see any). My only complaint is the battery life (it seems to last only about 2 1/2 hours, and this is with AirPort and Bluetooth OFF, and MAX BATTERY LIFE); it's disappointing, quite…
  • I've upgraded the hard drive on a 15" AL PB; it's a BIG PAIN but very doable - just keep track of where the screws go. I don't believe that it voids the warranty because it is similar to upgrading the HD on the older Ti PBs; why would the newer…
  • Why would you want to use an IPOD as an ImageTank, anyway? It's more cost efficient to actually get an ImageTank - the basic version is very cheap at around $100; you just need to add a notebook hard drive. I have one if you're interested, BTW…
  • I'm somewhat familiar with DELL products: a couple of Inspiron/Latitude notebooks, Axim PDA, Dimension desktops, etc. IMHO, ALL the PC makers pretty much use similar components and patch their name on the outside: HP, Gateway, Toshiba, etc. Wh…
