It sucks muchly. I'm hoping after the full transition it will improve. Currently a Dell priced 'Powerbook' would mess up iBook pricing. Similarly a cheaper iMac would look odd against a Mini. So maybe things will improve, or maybe Apple will …

They share the same motherboard/chipset so it probably will. We can only hope for a firmware fix.

If migration assistant is dodgy, what is the best way for me to migrate from a PB G4 to MBP? Normally I'd use Target Disk Mode but obviously I'm now switching architecture too. Any ideas?

I was disapointed by the MacWorld review too, it seemed to be going out of its way to suggest things weren't much faster. I'm not convinced running a 1 minute video through some filters says a lot, whereas importing and editing a 10 minute movie wou…

Only Warcraft brings on the fans on my Powerbook, and I think that's GPU cooling. If the MBP has similar power characteristics I'd hope it was the same.

ExpressCard looks interesting. It promises lots, even graphics cards for laptops. I'm looking forward to getting a MBP, it should be a good boost over my PB G4 1.25, even in Rosetta.

I wonder how feasable it would be to add Altivec to a future Intel processor?

Actually JD, most manufacturers have gone with 1.83 so Apple aren't alone. What I am irked about (but not surprised) is that most of the competitors are about $400 cheaper. True, few come with 1GB RAM or built-in webcams, but most have modems, S-Vid…
