Just MAYA for now.

Leonis, have you tried importing .OBJ's instead of opening them? What kind of problems are you having? I have been creating Martian landscape OBJ's in bryce5 based on MGS MOLA data and importing them just fine.I succesfully imported one as big as …

I have it. MAYA is a bitchgodess. I'm hoping for the update to make it compliant with 10.1 comes out soon.

Unlimited could could have some "trickle down" effects for mac users, but I look at it like the chicken or egg senario. graphics card company: "They've got Unlimited for mac, we should port our XXX to OS X" A|W :"There isn't any serious graphics…

Yeah, it is very slow, it does not export shockwave 3d yet, nor does its MP aware. It is also currently "uncertified" for 10.1 and nvidia cards, and dual monitors cause problems rendering textured particles in the hardware render buffer. I must run …

sizzle chest I know VERY little about the g5 other than -it will be 64 bit -yields and OSX were the hold ups as of late november and my souce knows very little if any more at all. Out of respect for my source who happens to be family I wi…

The G5 exists in near-production form. We'll see it by summer.

The last time I heard anything I consider "reliable" (a face to face discussion in november), I was told apple plans on march-april.

Because some pro's running stuff like Maya, FCP and AE could sure the hell use it. Some people actually use the power instead of bragging about it. The PM lineup is supposed to be PRO machines, and the G5 and the mobo technology that accompanies i…

The best thing about this thread is it truly is CONFIRMED, and sawtooth didn't even use that damn word in the title

So much for THAT suprise.

Anyone who thinks the man who killed the PPC clones would port OSX to x86 so it can run on any beige box built in the last couple years needs to get a clue. The only reason to do so (performance) will not be an issue by this summer.

This is more along the lines of what I was thinking of too, it just seemed too good to be true. Somenone posted an interesting comment in the macnn news section a few days ago. The said something to the effect of "I know what they're doing blah …

[quote] Yes, true computer enthusiasts -- just like car lovers -- will always be interested faster, drool-worthy machines. Meanwhile they'll probably drive their Accord or Saturn to work, and not think there's any connection between the two. I …

All I can guess is that we will see new iMac's for sure, as well as ghz+ g4 powermacs. I believe the hype has nothing to do with any of Apple's current products, but is centered around the combination of a new device with a specialized service. …

I'm still betting we see the G5 in march. Jan will be about the new iMac, possibly a new consumer device. I heard the G5's production specs are basically final, but yeilds and OSX readiness will hold them back a few months. They are much closer …

I agree. As someone who took 7K out of my budget to purchase MAYA for OSX I am going to be pretty dissapointed if I am left without respectable workstation class hardare to run it on.

My "lowly" g4 doesn't perform very well with maya at this point. Maybe with some real processing and graphics card power I would get more work done. This argument could go either way. [ 12-04-2001: Message edited by: jj ]

There is a G5, Apple is using it and it is damn near ready for production. I personally don't think we'll see it for a few months,

As far as I know, the "order forms" used by any apple reseller has been the online apple store for quite some time now. Sorry, but sales reps and compUSA employee's are cluless.
