Hmmm, well, I'll just have to wait and try it out the Start panel myself. I personally find a little inconsistency (especially in one element) in service of utility not the worst thing in the world. Quote: Originally Posted by melgross And the…

Wow. I wonder if this will encourage Apple to keep the $1099 price point and move the MacBook to Core 2. Instead of, say, keeping Core 1 and dropping to $999.

Yup. How does it come up, and how is it inconsistent? genuinely curious. I've only seen a handful of screenshots.

Just FYI, everyone: all the people mentioning Core [anything] or Quartz [anything]: Vista does it. (Except possibly CoreData... I'm not sure if MS offers this as a public API.) Including CoreAnimation... MS's tech for this is called Spar…

Vista has much better parental controls, with the ability to limit the time one uses specific apps, instead of just blocking them completely. Of course, Leopard will have this too.

Honestly, the best thing about Vista is that brings Windows up to speed (mostly) with OS X... all in one huge release. The stuff it adds for consumers that Tiger doesn't have -- you can count on one hand. Parental controls, better file recover…

Almost certainly MBPs first. I've thinking for a while now that MBPs would get Core 2 (of course), and MacBooks stick with Core 1 and a $100 price decrease, but recently I'm less sure. It's quite possible even Apple hasn't decided yet.

Resolution independence is 99% a sure thing in Leopard. There have been many, many clues.

Interestingly, it looks like Vista may actually beat Leopard to market. The latest build (about to hit RC1) is apparently considerably better than the by-all-accounts disappointingly buggy Beta 2. Anyway, whether Vista really does appear in Janu…

I honestly can't imagine what the "Top Secret" stuff will be if Leopard *doesn't* have resolution independence. If you're going to refresh the UI... the time to do it is when you introduce resolution independence into the OS.
