I have this one OWC 240 GB, at 530$ (3 years Warranty) : http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other...ting/SSDMX240/ and I am very happy with it.
-
According to several sources, the OWC SSD are highly recommended. That's why I bought one for my MacPro: 240 GB and it rocks. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/inter..._SSD_Sandforce

Cinebench scores of the Quadro nVidia are not better than the ATI Radeon 5870, so the latter one is the best bang for the buck.

Yesterday I installed the ATI Radeon 5870 in my MacPro Nehalem 2009. Unlike with the 5770, the pci expansion bay fan isn't noisy, except for a few seconds at startup. Fan speed quicky drops then from 2000 rpm to 800 rpm which is very acceptable. Now…

The fans aren't misbehaving now while only the GeForce 120 is in PCie-slot 1. The GT 120 doesn't need a power cable connected to the logic board.
-
Does this mean that if I upgrade to an ATI radeon 5870, that I will have the same trouble?
-
It seems that not the ATI fan but the fans from the PCI-expansion bay and the power supply are the culprit. Any ideas? TIA

After more than half an hour, speed is now below 1000 rpm and noise is acceptable now. But every time I restart my computer, it takes a long time before the noise and fan speed is reduced. Is the 5870 also so noisy?

Definitely upgrade to 1 GB RAM, because 512 MB RAM is only 432 MB real, due to the integrated VRAM.

I would buy a dual 1.83 Ghz with 1 GB RAM. No need for a superdrive or a larger harddisk. And I don't play games. I have a Dual 1.8 G5 for DVD burning and I prefer a faster Firewire harddisk instead of the expensive and slow 2.5" 5400 PRM drives. …

Of course it's better, but a lot of students won't have the cash for it. I don't play games, and for me the cheapest Macbook is sufficient. I can always use a second monitor in addition with the small 13" screen.

Does the 2.0 GHz run hotter than the 1.83 Ghz?
-
I expect that the difference between 1 GB and 512 MB is much bigger than between 1 and 2 GB. Or not?

Still not convinced? read this review: MacBook review by Ars Technica: 9/10 http://arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/macbook.ars

I still have to questions: 1) Are the fans of the duo noisier than these of the solo? 2) How is the audio-in port of the Mac Mini? (signal/noise-ratio?) TIA
-
I still have one question. Is the Rosetta technology faster and more stable with 2 GB RAM than with 1 GB RAM (for the use of Office, not Photoshop)?

I have seen such a PowerMac Mini (Dual Core) working now and the speed of universal applications is impressive. Cine Bench runs even faster than on my PowerMac G5 Dual 1.8, which I bought in october 2004 for more than 2000 dollars.... Speed Office…
