The question should be, "why are used Macs worth so much?" By that I mean that as long as you are on the selling end of the deal, you come off quite well. To me it makes sense to buy new macs every couple of years and then to sell your old ones on…

I can do it pretty easily now, but the first time I had the hardest time getting that %^$*@!ing bottom case off. It really is snapped into place well.

Wasn't the 23" Cinema HD a LOT more expensive before? Can't recall the price.

Yes, according to him the fans go on high and system slows down when you try to use the powerbook with the lid closed and connected to an external monitor. I'm not entirely sure why that would be (and he doesn't really say either beyond the heat is…

I guess he wanted his 15 minutes of fame... But this information will come in handy in the future when 100GB+ drives are available. Right now there is no real need to upgrade the internal drive.

[quote]Originally posted by Owl Boy: Its held together by tape! The tape basically just keeps cables and the like in place. There is also tape in the ibook and probably the tibooks (never taken one of those apart though).

Yes, I'm hoping for that too. 640MB will do me for the moment, but it would be nice to have the option to upgrade in the future.

I just measured an iBook screen, and it is around 12.25" not 12.1". I think the actual measurements are based on the amount of viewable area -- perhaps there is a small amount of non-display space around the surface of the LCD.

Wouldn't it make more sense to assume that the slight difference is due to the printing process or something? I doubt that Apple is going to underestimate the size of their new screen. (Keep in mind that they do list the ibook's screen as being 12…

[quote]Originally posted by Overhope: Now I have no excuses, and a 12" PB with 500MB of RAM is my sweet spot. Sounds good, although you'll have a little trouble getting one with 500MB of ram. 256, 384 and 640MB are the only possible config…

It will slow the machine down a bit when compared to the 867mhz 15" Tibook, but (very) preliminary tests at Barefeats seem to indicate it will be equal to or faster than the previous 800mhz Tibook. Sounds pretty good to me, given the size.
