Not impressed, I thought the switch to Intel was supposed to lower prices... And WTF, no FW800 in the 'MacBook Pro' (seriously lame)!!! How can you introduce something great like that and then just axe it???!!!??? Nothing but the expected... …

Perhaps the mic on your friend's computer is broken... I assume you have checked the input volume levels.

Do you really need to boot into OS 9? If so, have you tried selecting your OS 9 folder as the startup disk? If not, why not just run OS X with 'Classic' mode?

Whoa! What a huge difference! Thanks for the advice. Still seems wrong to me that OS X can't handle having a large number of fonts enabled... Windows doesn't slow down (at least not in my experiences) when a large number of fonts have been insta…

Uhm.... 429. Do you think thats the cause of my slow down? If so I'd say OS X has a pretty serious flaw. I mean designers could easily have that many fonts (and amatuer designers, like myself, could too).

The best way to do this is using a very nice (and very free) application called Audacity. You can even use your PowerBook's built in microphone to record your voice. Make sure you save the sound files as MP3's then just drag them into iTunes and yo…

Depending on how the avi files are encoded, you can probably just drag them into the iMovie library. iMovie will then automatically convert them (this may take quite a while depending on the speed of your machine). Once the clips are imported you ca…

I was wondering about the power requirements... The enclosure came with a regular USB connection and another one for power. When I plug them both in to my PBook, I can hear/feel the drive spin up, but the drive still doesn't appear on the desktop…

I'm all for cool new iPods but lets see some new Macs already.

Sounds like its time for a call to Apple. If your iMac is brand new, it will still be under warranty and they should replace it without any trouble.

Yes, iChat works with AIM (AOL Instant Messanger). Personally I prefer Trillian over AIM, when using the Windows platform. Trillian is also compatible with iChat and AIM.

Quicktime with the appropriate plugin will play most common video formats.

I've never had any luck with CD-RWs. I once used a stack of them to backup my data when I wiped my computer. The burn process went fine, but when I went to replace my data, the CD's were unreadable. I lost everything. That experience taught me an im…

The windows installer does include a basic disk partitioner but I highly recommend Partition Magic. Its well worth the initial cost. I use PM all the time when working on my friend's PCs.
