If this is the case, then Apple needs to use more nVidia graphics solutions. NV has always had lower driver overhead when it comes to OpenGL. ATi has the best DirectX implementation, but that does little good for Apple.

Have you guys tried Option+Tabbing out of the game and then back in? I have the mouse overlay issue on Q2, and the Option+Tab trick makes that problem go away.

You don't need to do anything more than open the case. Once inside, you'll see the DIMM slot. Just pop out the old memory and put in the new. Close it back up and you're set!

Yeah, I don't see this as necessarily a bragging thread. I'm just curious how long people leave their systems up. I was just tooling along and wondered how long ago I rebooted. It can be a while before you realize it!

cool, thanks! Honestly, I'm surprised more people aren't posting their results. It's real easy to do!

Yeah, I think it's more fun when it's not easy. Puts more adventure in it. Actually, one of the easiest ways to upgrade an old computer is to put a new hard drive in it. If you have a 3-4 year old system, chances are the thing is running on a su…

Anyone know what the "Load averages" values mean?

Quote: The game is doing pretty well at minimum settings, althrough there's still some lag when facing many ennemies. I'm disapointed that a stock g5 can not handle the game at medium setting, but even at low it is beautiful, textures are quite ugl…

Yeah, and the 80gb drive can be placed in a mobile 2.5" USB2 enclosure. Those enclosures are nice because they get their power from the USB hub and will just plug and play on PCs running most windows versions (provided you format the drive as FAT32)…

Well, if cost isn't that big of an issue, start with 2GB. You can always add more later, should you need it. It's a very easy thing to do.

There doesn't appear to be any heating issues. I don't see how it could, since it's a notebook hard drive. They are designed to work in a cramped location that receives little ventilation (and can handle impact shock fairly well, too). I guess we'll…

Dropping AIM would be tragic. Lots of people have AIM accounts, so why make them get something else? If nothing else, Apple needs to support AIM, if only to appear compatible with the rest of the world. If you hate AIM, then you don't have to use it…

Well, the amount of RAM you have is related to performance, whereas the size of your hard drive is related to storage. In other words, having a larger hard drive won't increase your performance one bit (provided the drives you are considering have t…

If nothing else, you can purchase a USB card reader for your type of memory card for $10-20. They are nice because you can also use the memory cards as a portable storage device on just about any computer with a USB slot. I use mine to take files to…

I have the Samsung Syncmaster 512n, and I love it. Samsungs are very nice, and I recommend them 100%.

I think you'll be happy, especially after the memory upgrade. If you really get to liking it, you can upgrade the HD for some real kick. For what I've done so far, I'm pretty happy with the mini I own. If you're willing to accept that games aren't a…

Sorry, I forgot about the xBench score differences. 4200RPM score 7200RPM score As far as real world usage, boot times aren't that much improved, but everywhere else I see a big improvement. The Gimp loads 2x as fast, as does NeoOffice. A…

Work wallpaper 1632x1232 version This is probably one of the better landscape pictures I've ever taken. It was taken at Missouri Botanical Garden in St Louis, MO. I just stuck my camera down at water level, and took a picture. Go figure.

Tool's needed: long small phillips screwdriver. NOTE: Make sure you pay attention to how things are before you take it apart--this is how it needs to look when you are done putting it back together! NOTE2: Be careful when handling a mobile hard …

Wow! That's a lot of work. I might wait a while before doing this one. Thanks!
