They have work to do in a number of areas. Above all, they need to stop it from behaving in a quirky way. Quirky OS's are not desirable. (1) They need the Unix layer to behave like a Unix layer, not like The Unix That Apple Built. It's not sta…

Jonathan, [quote]Carbon apps, even when programmed as Mach-0 and using all the X-specific tech available to them, at the current time, will not look exactly like Cocoa ones. They'll be so close that the difference is negligible. Can you tell…

Well, even Microsoft said that at MWNY that they needed around 20-25 specific bug fixes in order to run Office properly, so Office X would be released only for 10.1. I don't think Adobe went so far as to say that the entire API was "crap"...

I've had a WMP beta for a little while now, but the final shipping with Office X will be posted as a free download at some point. Apparently the browser plugin works too.

I've contacted RealNetworks several times to harass them about this specific thing, even pulling the press card, and the employees there repeatedly amaze me with their complete lack of acknowledement of the difference between "native" and "runs in C…

I must have been thinking of the green 10.1 button Apple.com was sporting just after launch; my package had a graphite button too.

It was a package almost exactly like the Public Beta package: thin white folder, big blue X on the front with a green aqua button saying "10.1" and inside, there was a desktop pic on one side and the CD on the other. Nice packaging. I wonder why…

It wouldn't make any sense, since the two chipsets are already in existence and both have been named. The PowerPC 8500 is the G5, period. No one has any substantial information regarding what stage of development it's in or if it'll ship anytime…

Definitely very surreal, but remember that code that disables operation on a fictional chipset is not an entire impossibility. An excellent trick, either way.

[quote]Remember at past Keynotes we had a lot of stories the day before from people who were working at other booths and snuck over to the Apple booth to get a looksie? Well, Apple doesn't even have to start setting up now until Monday at 12pm....AF…
