Glad I don’t have to work there. I’m lucky that I’ve been WFH (tech job) for nearly two years now, and don’t have to return to the old fashioned ways. Offices (for tech work) are so yesterday.

Two things: “The half-hour series failed to bring in the same streaming numbers as other scripted shows,” and “The series wrapped today.” See, that’s part of the problem. In the old days people used to watch episodic TV over weeks, when episodes wer…

I sometimes feel a little bad that I won’t start watching any series before all its episodes are available (and I’m not the only one). Any beancounters watching for huge opening numbers needs to look for a secondary spike after the final episode end…

I’m on the iPhone Upgrade Program, and it’s been two years (I have an 11) so I’m “due” for an upgrade. But I’m actually on the fence, because I hardly go anywhere due to the restrictions, so I could sit another round out till—maybe—travel becomes a …

Little Voice (1998) was already a great film with Brenda Blethyn, Jane Horrocks (who is _amazing_), and Ewan McGregor. You can rent it on any platform, and you should. Forget the series.

I’m just here to comment that I’m amused that this story was posted by someone called “Amber.” (Maybe I’m just easily amused.)

Again with the folding? Tch. We are decades away from material science that allows semi-rigid materials to bend without breaking. (I know about smart metals.) This is the main reason we have: hinges. So: a flip phone? Maybe I’d allow it. But foldabl…

Correct. Working from home is now demystified, and companies have seen productivity levels maintained (or exceeded in some cases). Side benefits are greater accessibility for those who have trouble commuting physically or otherwise, fewer cars in th…

I still use a wired keyboard, because I don’t like charging basic peripherals all the time (I know, I’m a monster). Wired + backlit would have sold this for me.

“So rather than driving the entire display at top speed, the iPad Pro assesses where that speed will give you the most benefit. If you're drawing on it with the Apple Pencil, then the area right under your fingers will refresh at 120Hz, but the app'…

Makes sense for retail (not that anyone goes to stores anymore). Personally, I like opacity in my own mask. Plus a hat and glasses, and no one can see anything, which is ideal! I'd wear a burqa if it didn't draw attention.

“If you’re out of bread, eat cake.” The message may be technically plausible, but it strikes me as tone deaf.

This is inevitable. Post-pandemic, the sooner studios realize that streaming is a viable channel, equal to brick-and-mortar venues, the sooner they will profit. Just to cite one local example, I watch a lot of shows/movies, but even before COVID-19 …

I use my 12-inch MacBook for writing, so, though I’m super-interested in an ARM-based replacement, my ability to purchase one is 100% dependent on the availability of Scrivener (ARM) for macOS.

Early May is wildly optimistic, and at this point misleading. I hope I’m wrong, but not according to the numbers and stats right now.

Hm, not sure this would work for the whole surface of the pencil, since the greater distance offset from the screen couldn’t be calculated (unless you wore a tracking device on your head). The tip though, that might be doable, since it’s quite close…

I may check it out because of all the waves this show seems to be generating (and because I already have ATV+), and I like human stories. But I have to say that I didn’t make it through that first excruciating Hallmark channel-caliber trailer. Hopef…

Agree: add, don’t replace. I’m holding out for that green when my year is up.

So many standout performances on that show, especially (IMO) the supporting cast. Crudup and Duplass were both stellar, as usual. I haven’t been rocked by the AppleTV+ selection so far, but TMS was (IMO) the best, and For All Mankind was quite fu…

I have the 40mm with GPS, and the battery life is frequently ~70% when I get home in the evening. Zero complaints about that.
