I have chosen OS X because it's been far more useful to me. Today only confirmed what I've known for over 7 years. I nearly lost my dissertation (thank you for backups) today because Word and Windows can't seem to handle each other very well, eve…

You may want to try DiskWarrior or Techtool Pro. DiskWarrior's better. I can't explain what it'll do, but as long as there's nothing wrong with the drive, it'll rewrite what's needed to connect the drive to your system. I'm not computer expert, b…

You can reinstall the system without messing with your settings and see if that changes anything: "archive and install." If that doesn't work, it may be hardware related.

I like Spotlight, especially as a first implementation. There are improvements to be made, though... Have you considered re-indexing your drive?

Sorry for your troubles. I'm writing this from five year old tibook with Filevault running the whole time without a problem. Since it ain't broke, I won't "fix" it, but maybe I'll have to rethink using it again once I upgrade.

Try Data Rescue, but don't write anything to the hard drive before you do.

If Leopard goes well, it'll be Lion: King of the OSes. If not, Pussy: Queen of the Litterbox. I'll go punish myself now.

I'm guessing it's actually going to be a bit more expensive than $129. If Leopard is more than just your ordinary "upgrade," that is-- and that's how Steve has presented it. Or, suggested, at least. I don't remember if it was here, but someone …

Sorry, couldn't remember... You can try this: it's worked for me in the past: http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php. Good luck.

Be right back-- but don't save anything to that drive in the meantime!

I can't say that's what you "should" do, but that's been the only thing that has worked for me. Not the best of news, I guess. I do seem to have better luck with USB2 than firewire, though-- is that an option?

Where are you? I notice that sometimes AIM goes down in different places around the country. Or, I've heard mention of ISPs being the issue. Who do you use? If you haven't been welcomed yet-- welcome to the forums.

I had a problem like this in the past, too. I don't know if you're Mac or Windows-- I'm Mac. For me, the issue was firewire related, I think. I also thought that changing or adding info like album art or lyrics to a song seemed to increase the li…

I haven't seen Vista (personally), but this seems really gimmicky to me. This is what I would do if I needed every scrap of whatever to get my OS to boot a fraction better. Are people supposed to fill their USB ports with thumb drives? Is USB 1 l…

Can you please direct me to the location at which you have used said iPhone?

Dancing with the devil. Neither wants to appear the lesser. We get to wait and see who is. My hope? That for once, the hardware/software combo shines so much that people see and want the added potential an Apple approach can bring. The iP…

Could you, or your iMac be royalty? (Sorry, couldn't help it.)

I hope you guys are backing up while you're waiting.
