true, i would definitely prefer the ati over the older nvidia...but i'm unsure if i want the size..it's hard to tell at the apple store how the 15" will be

i really hope apple is on the cutting edge of intel hardware, including EMI or whatever that BIOS replacement is...hopefully we'll be seeing firewire target and the such stick around because that has gotten me out of a jam many a time

twice the ram would help you a lot more than a minor speed bump

some speed bumps tomorrow would let everyone know theyre still serious about getting some new ppc hardware out the door

indeed... stevie? how bout some new laptops tomorrow? gotta catch those grads

I was referring to some of the performance competitions...that one linux vs mac one recently comparing high end linux systems with a g5 in workstation and server uses, in workstation uses, the g5 did much better

the powermacs still blow away most pcs for its price range...just the future looked gloomy with ibm

that's what i'm on and i really haven't run into anything that my good ol' g3 book can't handle...well...h.264 is pushing it, but that'll be a intel-native version of quicktime, so no problem

classic is finally being put to rest it seems...some important programs only run on classic, but most people will be able to survive without them i can imagine...also, if they can emulate ppc reasonably well, i would think they could probably work i…

keep in mind that important apps that take advantage of altivec and g5 processors will be already recompiled (apple's pro suites and adobe apps for example) for intel by the time it comes out. rosetta is for the smaller developers that can't afford…

i'm going into college and i've only got a g3 700mhz ibook...i don't think it'll last...so either i'll go for a cheap ibook g4 to last me until the intels come out...or i'll go for a decent imac g5 because those should be quite good still, even when…

would you kids stop worrying? it's gonna be at least two years. also, apple is telling developers to make the "universal" builds of their software, bundling PPC and x86 ala FatBinaries. PPC will be relevant for at least 4 years. Apple knows its com…

i wonder as to why there was no temporary insanity opened, especially with cnet breaking out these wild stories...

man, if jobs surprises us with an update tomorrow, i'm jumpin on one...just a little update...

a pda/cellphone combo called the FigNewton

take a look at powerlogix's 1ghz g3 upgrade...gives a lot of raw power, but no altivec is the drawback, so if you don't use programs that use that as much, it would make a nice speedup for about $200

hopefully it's just intel branded ppc's...otherwise i might hold off on my college laptop/desktop purchasing til next year...

i'm in a similar situation except i'm going into college for CS and deciding between these two..my only concern about the 12" is that it has less expandability than that 15"...is this really an issue even? Also, I like the more powerful video on the…

it is possible though that the mini is a one-time only unit, just to test the waters of the low-end market...a new low end machine might be significantly different and maybe not even be mini...all depends on what teh jobsy is thinkin
