well, all this "buy the Mac Pro if you want to upgrade your gfx-card, you pinko xMac-lover" got a new twist to it. now one should say: "buy a new Mac Pro if you want to upgrade your gfx-card, you pinko old Mac Pro-lover"... edit: I guess one ca…

Thanks! 'Command' seem to be unavailable as a modifier key, but the option-arrow-thing works great.

sorry, but i think your math has gone broken. if A is 73% faster than C, and B is 55% faster than C, then A is 11.6% faster than B, not 32.7%. which makes more sense, since the difference in clock rate is about 8%. (and not 84%)

but compiling leopard for 64-bit intel machines would imply, or at least allow, the use of other nifty features of the x86-64 architecture - no..? (e.g. additional registers)

the GF8600m can 'borrow' main memory to extend the dedicated VRAM. (aka Turbocache: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turbocache )

as apple continues to 'gadgetize' their consumer oriented products, i would expect the prices to keep falling - cool stuff and low prices (but not necessarily the lowest) is gadget-jukies are looking for...

well, you're not going to see anything even close to x850xt-like performance in a macbook pro for a couple of years at the very best...

dual monitors are generally very nice, but imo the way the macos gui is designed it's not a very efficient way of working with several documents and/or applications 'simultaneously'. you basically just dump stuff you just want to be visible on one …

a lot of your questions are well answered in the faq: http://www.geekpatrol.ca/geekbench/f...ked-questions/

yes, solar cells can be significantly more effective, but a even a hot cpu (~70° C) doesn't radiate very much energy. (maybe someone clever could do the math?) and then you have to address the issue of where to place the cells inside the case?

thermocouples are not very effective i think. (?) you'd probably be better off spending that weight and volume on a bigger battery.
