Woodcrest or Conroe. Some suggest all Woodcrest, others suggest Woodcrest in some models and Conroe in others. We'll know soon enough. Woodcrest is the Xeon 5100 series, Conroe the Core 2 Duo E6000 series.

Here are some Conroe Mac benchmarks that, if you believe them, would be very good news for Photoshop users. If Core and Rosetta can do this for Photoshop there wouldn't really be a need for an MS Office UB.

Maybe this is the reason why Apple is adding a spreadsheet and enhanced word processing to iWork. Apple has the nVpod, the iPhone and the real video iPod coming and those should take care of Zune. (By the way, I like the name.) But now that Micr…

I believe Broadwater is the 965 chipset for desktop Core 2 and below, while Blackford is for Xeon 5000/5100.

Intel has a cheap (at least according to them) water cooling solution. It was designed for Extreme Edition systems but I imagine it could be adapted to Woodcrest. Intel and AMD are both working on "reverse hyperthreading", also known as Core Mult…

According to The Inquirer , Intel has alloted its initial batch of Merom chips to Apple and Lenovo exclusively. This prompted Dell to sign a huge deal with AMD. I know the source is not very credible but it is still fun to speculate.

I doubt Apple will abandon their quad-core flagship workstation. Maybe they can use Conroe to replace the dual-core Power Macs but the quad would still require two CPUs, and those would have to be Woodcrests. ThinkSecret kept repeating their pred…

I just wanted to clarify that my original post wasn't intended as an endorsement of a MacDell. I hate Dell and would never, under normal circumstances, buy another desktop computer from them. I prefer to build my own. A MacDell might be tempting if …

Darth, Intel uses the 945 chipset family for current Core Duo laptops and small form factor desktops. This chipset can use Core 2 Duo Merom CPUs, but not Conroe. As for the 975 chipset, which will support Conroe, there is not a single motherboard…

Quote: Originally posted by Digital Disasta Does anyone know when the 64 bit chips will make it into the MBP's?? Around the end of summer, or more like the christmas season? Merom (64 bit) comes out in August, so it might show up in a MBP by Se…

I actually like the Conroe codename. I wouldn't mind the upcoming headless Mac being named the Conroe Mac, although Intel would have to agree. Woodcrest is very Intel and Merom is a place in Israel. The names will be Xeon and Core Duo/Solo.

Parallels already has virtualization software (in beta) available for the Mac that allows you to run most versions of Windows and a few Linux distros. I don't have a Mac yet but would love to read comments about how well it performs. The link: ht…
