Interactive applications don't cluster very well, as the network latency is far too high. Clustering tends to favour processes that can be split into chunks easily, including rendering 3D, compilng source code or number crunching.

For me it's not worth the hassle. Not everything can be repaired and I have enough old Macs as it is.

I'm probably biased about memory because I tried to run Doom 3 on 256 MB (minimum 384MB). It ran, albeit badly... 512MB is now definitely the minimum RAM in a games PC.
