I would would be less concerned about having a quad-core CPU just now. The number of applications that can take advantage of them fit on one hand. Since you say that a Mac Pro is overkill, I doubt you're doing anything that would benefit from 4 …

Cloth mouse pads only work well with mice with rollers. Optical/Laser mice have always required a surface that is "smoother". The cloth pads scatter the light too much. The Mighty Mouse needs a hard surface.

I'll only tackle the questions I'm familiar with... Q3: Apple doesn't allow the USB port for this and no one has hacked that ability in yet. Q4: Possible: Yes. Easy: No. You have to remove the hard drive from the apple-TV and attach it to a Ma…

Changing both the RAM and the hard drive is trivially easy in a MacBook. But I believe only the RAM is a "user serviceable" part in Apple's eye. But changing the hard drive is so easy and risk free, it should be. The RAM requires a coin and a sma…

Yes, you can. Window->Show Movie Properties (command-J) Audio Settings tab. Adjust the db. But you'll probably get a lot of distortion.

After reading your post again, it looks like you are trying to modify the Apple menu itself. Never heard it referred to as the "main menu" before. Are you trying to remove one of the commands? Are you doing this for your main user account or an a…

I can make it work in Tiger, but in a very inconvenient way. It will only work if I first click in the subject of the email. Then I am able to drag words in the subject field. But if you're going to have to click in the field anyway, you may …

I've never had that problem, but I can offer some solutions. Have you tried another browser? Or another account on your Mac? Maybe it's on the netmail end. Have you tried on another computer? These steps might at least narrow down the probl…

I'm fairly certain that what you're trying to do isn't even possible in OS X. The computer needs the OS and/or drivers in order to interpret an ISO file. So trying to boot from an ISO (ie. no OS running yet) wouldn't work. Is this process poss…

Boot from DVD Installer and choose Disk Utility from one of the menus (can't remember the exact one). Select your drive. In the erase tab, there's an option to do a 35-pass erase. That should make it pretty darn hard to recover anything after.

The answer could fill an entire book. You need to describe the Windows app. Which language was it written in? What libraries does it use? How large is the app? Does is rely on any Windows only technologies? The question is too vague, give us s…

Can you not drag it out of the window? It should go poof! and disappear.

Go to the Apple menu in the upper-left corner and choose About this Mac. An iBook G4 will have either 10.3.x or 10.4.x installed on it. Your 10.1.x disks are way too old for that machine. If you can boot the Mac, why do you need an install di…

Why not just put the Mac to sleep instead of shutting it down. You should then be able to wake it from the keyboard.

Yes, it quite easy. 2 Options: 1. Divide your current hard drive into 2 (or more) partitions. Install Leopard on one, and your other version of OS X on the other. 2. Get an external drive and instill Leopard on that. It's best to go with a…

I know this sounds obvious, but are you using the hold button? If not, is there a chance that you have jostled the iPod enough (if it's loose in a book bag) to press the play button?
