The guy also spells it "scaler", not scalar. Me thinks its just a pun about the G4/altivec. Scaler = scales well.

OK, other than the history issue (kind of assumed the beige G3's mobo to be THE G3 mobo), I find my prediction quite plausible.

Anyone care to respond to that?

I think there's a slight chance for a 25th aniversary mac with a G5, 'cause it would justify it being limited edition and VERY expensive, which would be nessesary since G5 yields are probably not up to "major release" standards (if its even ready at…

That 100% performance increase rumour is the very reason I've been suspecting Quads are coming. IF it is true that is. Going quad would do exactly that! Increase performance 100%. At least theoretically, and this is not an official statement so why…

Apple already did make a new memory controller for the xserve, didn't they? maybe they're just waiting for moto to do their part now.

How about this: apple has a new G4 coming with a faster bus, but it's not fabbed by moto, so they can't release it 'till the deal with moto ends this summer (does anyone know the exact date?). Or it IS fabbed by moto, but designed for the new 0.13…

Well, POWERMAC G5's in 2003 is probably a safe bet, but I wouldn't be surprised if the G5 shows up in rackmount servers first. perhaps even this year. [ 05-01-2002: Message edited by: LowB-ing ]

Way cool! doesn't sound unlikely for the G5 i think, but what are the chances of moto making a G4 that supports hypertransport? Is it more difficult/expensive to do than DDR? The G4 is obviously getting some kind of overhaul anyway, but will apple …

It's possible ( even likely) that Dorsal was testing prototype chips not made on a full scale fab. If those chips were designed to be fabbed on a 0.13 micron process (which he indeed suggests) then they won't be available 'till moto's 0.13 fabs are …
