Your computer is not using QE because your 8MB video card is a Rage 128 which doesn't have the functions required to handle QE. There is no hack to fix this, the card just cannot do it. All responsiveness you are getting would be from other improvme…

I've been running it since August and it's fine. No problems at all.

I'd imagine the fact that server costs much more than the regular version of OS X is one reason to put it in server only...

I'm on a 400Mhz G3 PowerBook and 10.2 is at least as fast as 10.1.5. There's no reason it should be any slower. The compiler was optimized, so every part of the OS that was recompiled will be faster because of it, plus several parts of OS X were …

I guess it didn't come out in October as originally predicted...

Maybe you should download graphic converter instead?

Well, they are working nonstop, I am almost sure of that, but obviously they need to release things once in a while or they'd be working for nothing, so I'd imagine that they plan updates every so often and come up with reasonable goals of what can …

Actually, I read that the mac version of Doom 3 won't have an editor either.

Putting quake 3 in the subject would have been wise. Now for the answer. You can't. There is no Quake 3 map editor for Mac OS X. Maybe you can channel some of your anger into energy and write one?

Maybe you're doing someting wrong, connecting to the wrong servers, or using the wrong version. It works fine for me. When? I don't know.

Yeah, I'd like to frag some of you jerks! Er, I mean, a nice friendly game of Q3 would be great. As to why there are more Q2 and Q1 updates... well, first of all, I wouldn't say that the quality is that great. Q3 runs fast in OS X. Q1 and Q…

I wouldn't fear the 10.2.1 update. Maybe it did do something funny before, but hopefully it was a one-time thing. I haven't had any negative side effects from 10.2.1 on any of the systems I've run it on. In fact, you are less likely to have trouble …

Macs are slower than PCs and always will be? I've never found speed to be at a real disadvantage on a Mac. In OS X, the GUI and 2D graphics in general are noticeably slower, but that is understandable considering how much more work the OS X GUI d…

Not everybody is in a big hurry to wipe out their hard drive and re-install everything, and calling them a troll because they don't want to do that is just plain rude. Anyway, here's the real explanation. Mac OS 10.2 uses a much newer kernel t…

[quote]Originally posted by cygsid: thanks for the link! Seems much better than LimeWire indeed. Very nice tidy Aqua UI in particular. I am starting to like this new class of OS X apps that take advantage of Aqua features like toolbars, slide s…

not really.

I've still never seen a 10.2 kernel panic...

If you don't use sudo or su, you probably can't do anything too harmful as you won't have permission to delete important system files or anything like that.

That works because it gets you a new lease. Your old lease will automatically expire when the DHCP server realizes it is no longer being used. (It checks leases every so often to see if they are being used)

I can see how that has some uses... if you're developing software and want to see how it runs on machines with less or no L3 cache or on single processor machines, or to see what the benefit is of the second processor. Kinda neat.
