  • How often do you partake in the processor-intensive joys of Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, Maya, Logic, et al?

  • The PB12 is such a better value than the iBook, it's ridiculous. Buy one from Apple with the EDU discount, and it works out to $1399. A steal!
  • Quote: Originally posted by Zapchud What about physics, AI, and sound-engines in games? They (especially physics and AI) steadily increase in complexity too. Again, real-time AI and physics routines were created specifically for X86 hardware,…
  • Quote: Originally posted by Zapchud So you say that for games, mhz is the only factor of performance, and how the processor is architected is irrelevant? What is your definition of "raw power to render with brute force"? That's correct. Mo…
  • Until developers program games with PPC code in mind, then no, it will not be a "gaming machine" other than the card you put into it. In the world of drawing polygons, MHz is MHz. No fancy shortened pipeline trickery (something as simple and straigh…
  • My Verizon DSL has an 8KB/s upstream speed on a good day, but it's generally just 4KB/s. It's really just enough to play an online game with seven other people and voice chat, but forget doing things like transferring files from your computer and vi…
  • Unless you're doing Photoshop, complex Maya work, or Final Cut Pro, you don't need more than 640MB of RAM. Everyone makes a big deal out of the limit, but I think it's nonsense. I suggest just buying from Apple with the Edu discount and maxed ou…

  • Yeah, totally go with those Walmart white boxes. I own one. Just rip out the nasty Lindows and put WinXP on there. The only downside is that those things have really loud, whiny fans in them. You'll do well to make a trip to your local PC shop an…

  • I own a 12" PowerBook. The thing's a frickin' ice cube after using an 800MHz Titanium. Get one from the Apple store for $1399. Just remember to max the RAM on that mofo and you'll be all set.
  • Someone put this guy in front of a white background.
  • Is this in effect for notebooks? Because my newly-purchased PB12 has a relatively inconspicuous dead pixel (of a purifying, if slightly annoying, blue shade).

  • It can't be any hotter than the Ti800, from my experiences.
  • I just bought a 12" PowerBook. With the educational discount, you can't go wrong for $1399. Max the RAM in that puppy and buy a nice 17" LCD sceen (a VGA one) with your savings. Why? - The 12" is smaller. The girth of the fifteen restricts cas…
