  • Er, whats an Avatar? I'm guessing some form of animated graphic but I'd be interested to know for sure. Anyhow, they seem mighty controversial.

  • Is Spring break some form of American tradition? From sites I've 'inadvertently stumbled' across on the internet, it seems to involve bikini clad girls removing their, well, bikinis. [ 03-17-2003: Message edited by: RodUK ]

  • [quote]Originally posted by Fran441: Typically in the United States, you go from school from K-12 (Ages 5-18). Then, you go to a College/University for 4 years to get a degree (making you 22 when you get your degree). Hmmm, so am I right in t…
  • [quote]Originally posted by Eldios: American students (I am one of them) do not call college "uni" that is a British/Aussie/New Zealand thing. Here in Britain you typically go to school until you're 16 to do GCSEs, college until you're 18 t…
  • Well, if you actually use your Apple products, what do you expect? They're mainly designed to stand in the corner of a room and look cool. Seriously though, sometimes form does seem to win out over function, the 'hockey puck' mouse being a good e…
  • [quote]Originally posted by fred_lj: BTW, I've been reading so much about these "Page-ins" -- how do actually quantitatively measure them? I'm not a performance freak, so I haven't investigated it further until now. You can open a terminal wi…
  • [quote]Originally posted by EmAn: Yeah, before you complain about speed I'd get more RAM. Especially on a laptop with their slow hard drives. If it's paging to and from the hard disk, it will be slow. [ 03-03-2003: Message edited by: RodUK ]
  • The intuitive nature of Macs lets your creative juices flow. You don't have to stop and think 'how do I do this', so you're free to concentrate on your work. [ 03-03-2003: Message edited by: RodUK ]
  • [quote]Originally posted by Messiah: I had a look at the 20" last night in John Lewis, and it is impressive, but surprisingly doesn't look that much bigger than the 17" ASD I'm using at the moment, just a little wider. Just a couple of thoughts...…
  • I'd return it one last time with a written letter stating the history of the monitor, the hassle you've been put through, and the fact that if it isn't repaired to your satisfaction this time, you want a replacement that's equivalent in todays terms…
  • [quote]Originally posted by Eugene: Another plus for the 9000 Pro. The retail card includes one DVI-I and one ADC port. And, I believe, a DVI to VGA adapter, so you get maximum compatability.
  • [quote]Originally posted by Tik: Is the 8500 better than the 9000? How so? I'd say marginally, but it depends on what you use it for. I believe the 9000 has a higher core clock speed, but the 8500 produces higher frame rates in games due to i…
  • I'd get a Radeon 8500. I think it's still one of the best Mac graphics cards on the market, unless you're a hardcore gamer and prepared to shell out for a GeForce4 Titanium or Radeon 9700 when it becomes available.
  • [quote]Originally posted by frawgz: I know it's paradoxical, but I think if Apple treads carefully and is very prolific in the next several months with new software (and innovation), it can galvanize, rather than discourage, the developer commu…
