Well, I wonder why Steve Jobs decided to set up this demo of Lion, with so few and moot features to show. Just to prove out that they are working on it? After all, they could have introduced the Mac App Store without any reference to Lion. And I …

I agree. The Lion demo was a botch. There is no new tech, just cosmetics. I expected to have some more technical details : kernel, cocoa evolutions, CPU/GPU blending, 64-bit for all Mac capable computers, etc. Very disappointing. Maybe developers wi…

If the software patents situation were the same in Europe and in the US, then why are all the patent infringement cases filled in US courts? I can't remember hearing about any patent litigation over here in Europe…

Note that aspirin is not patented here in France. That's a direct consequence of 1918 victory (it is written in the armistice act). I think it is high time Apple moves to Europe: there is no software patent over here, we are civilized.

It's called the iPizza. Don't ask me how it started.

The gyroscope measures the variation of what is called the angular momentum. It can also complement the GPS when the reception is poor, or between two sample points, because it is basically an analog process, thus continuous, whereas the GPS works d…

I would also add that the intensity threshold of the eye is about 10^-14 W, which is roughly equivalent to the light of a candle at 16 km (~ 9 miles).

The angular resolution of the eye is 1', that is to say 1 mm at 3 m (or 100 km on the Moon). A 300 dpi display means each pixel is 25.4/300 = 84.7 µm. So this corresponds to the angular resolution of the eye at 3 * 0.0847 = 0.254 m or 25.4 cm (10…

I wonder when at last IPv6 will be deployed. It is, after all, the only elegant solution to those kinds of technical hurdles caused by NAT. Get free of NATs, use IPv6 !

Incredible. We say over here that Americans lose their time in courts, but it's a clear understatement. This stupid case demonstrates that the whole patent system is becoming inefficient, as it allows morons to hamper overall innovation. Bummer.
