if only that were true as well. In my case, unless I run at reduced speed, the fans come on even when I just open several tabs in Safari. That never happened with the 2.0's

I think they are. They talk about Whisper-Quiet Operation on their 2.5 product page. Well, the 2.5's are anything but Whisper-Quiet. If they were the same noise-level as the 2.0's it would be fine with me, but I was promised a more quiet machine tha…

I'm very disappointed with the 2.5's. They're way, way louder than the 2.0's. I wish Apple wouldn't lie so much about the quietness of liquid cooling.

does anyone here know how to play this with just your keyboard instead of your mouse??

If Apple want to push Quicktime any further they should release iMovie for Windows!

I suggest you have a look at Photoretouch. I use the Pro version for colour correction and batch processing. Much better than even Photoshop! I think the PhotoRetouch DigiCam Version is the most interesting option for you! http://versiontracker.c…

I vote for Portfolio. Just ditched iPhoto for it. It's fast, versatile and has plenty of features (pro) photographers will like. Thing I like best about it, anything I edit in the finder is automatically updated in Portfolio and visa versa. Give the…

thanks for the quick reply. Let's see if I can't find one cheap then

I agree, Myriad is a really beautiful font and would suit Tiger beautifully!

Thanks very much, glad you point out my main objectives: simplicity and elegance. I enjoyed designing it very much. Btw, I see you're using a WD 74GB Raptor System Disk, I'm thinking of getting that as well. What's your experience with it speed and…

I did and although I have loads of stuff to put on it, (I still save all pro-apple/unix info I come across) I don't have time for updating unfortunately. Perhaps I should just take a day or two off, and put the relevant info on there. Did the site …

Quote: Originally posted by UnixMac you deserve a solution, keep on it. Take your machine to the nearest apple store and compare it side by side with one of theirs.. let them see for themselves that it's not working "as promised" Thanks. Alr…

Quote: Originally posted by UnixMac Sure the G5 fans spin up for a few seconds once in a while, but if yours stay on for a long time, you're either taxing it to the max, or you need a firmware fix. I do indeed like to tax my 2.5 to the max, t…

I don't mind the overclocking at all as long as it doesn't have any negative effects on the quality of the product. It appears I'm far from alone in having problems with my 2.5. I was told it would be more quiet than the dual 2.0's and so far I have…

the thing I'm surprised about is that possibly the 2.5's are simply overclocked 2.2's/2.3's, hence the heat problems.

and what about this on hardmac.com today: G5, what will the future be? - Lionel - 14:58:06 It's now 4 months that Apple have unveiled the dual 2.5 GHz G5 Powermac. At that time we wanted to calm those of our readers who were disappointed not…

That doesn't always work - I ran the diagnostics cd before and it didn't 'see' that the processor was faulty. I have meanwhile been talking to Apple and will get yet another new processor and a new hard drive, because that's making ticking noises as…

The room I work in is cool enough and the airflow is in no way obstructed. The noise I'm talking about is comparable to superdrive activity. No fun, seems I need to have my machine checked again

the small hum is ok, but there is serious fan activity, even when running at reduced speed, when I just load a few tabs in safari. That to me isn't normal. When I have energy prefs at automatic/highest the fan come on all the time, even when selecti…
