Apple needs to speed bump and improve the graphics of the Mac Mini and iBook around August. This suggests to me that Powerbooks with the PPC 7448 will be introduced at the Paris Expo and may very well be the last PPC Powerbooks.

The Freescale 7448 processor might debut next spring in the eMac. For the obvious reason that everyone is having trouble moving their processors to 90nm, Freescale is probably being very conservative about any suggestion of when the 7448 will be ava…

The 7448 definitely seems to be designed for Apple. However the timetable suggests that it's really meant for the iBook/eMac rather than Powerbook.

If the Powerbook gets either a speed bump or G5 (unlikey) then all those extra 1.5 GHz G4's could mean an eMac speed bump very soon.
-
I think it is much more likey that Freescale is ready to move the G4 (in limited quantities) to 90nm than we'll see a G5 Powerbook before next year. 1.8, 2.0 GHz, 1MB on-die cache sounds like a reasonable speed bump.

Virtual PC 6.1 won't be able to run on the new iMac G5 so it would seem to be good timing.

If Freescale is ready to move the G4 to 90nm, will it have an on-die 1MB L2 cache? If that comes out this year it could make even a 1.8GHz G4 reasonably fast.

They have (optional) stickers!

There's no way that the eMac will get a major processor upgrade (such as a G5) until at least next spring. Considering the lack of current inventory, a minor speed bump might occur very soon.
-
I think it's more likely this will end up in an iBook than a Powerbook.

Tiger wants its MP cores! While the 970MP seems to be designed specifically for IBM's blade servers, there is little doubt that MP cores are in Apple Computer's future. Putting MP cores in Powerbooks, iMacs & eMacs would be a great way to make e…

A Demo at Apple Expo Paris sounds likely to me. Windows XP SP2 is ready to ship and Amazon.com now has listed Sept. 13 as the date Office 2004 Pro (including Virtual PC 7) will be available. This stuff is important to MS, because the Xbox 2 is a G5.
