Apple has seeded 7F34 now. Read more at http://macintosh.fryke.com/cgi-bin/m...40226_10337f34

Wow. Yay. Cool. Can we get back to business-as-usual now? ;-) Seriously: This has been true since Mac OS X Public Beta at the very least. Clean installing helps. However, you can keep your installation good by optimising the system from time to time…

I've had this happen once. Look at the ownership and permissions of the volume. I'm quite sure this harddrive doesn't belong to your user/group, but rather the system or something. That's what happened to me. The main drive should belong to 'system'…

Why do people install the CHUD utilities without knowing what they do? *SIGH*... The hardware pane comes from CHUD. You've installed them, apparently, with the dev tools.

Apache 1.3.28 is newer than Apache 1.3.4 ... Why? Because 28 is higher than 4. Just a different way of counting - and quite common in UNIX programs' version numbering. I just hope we'll see 10.3.10 after 10.3.9 to quiet this talk. ;-)

Never seen such a problem. And I'm talking direct connection (via DHCP from ISP) as well as behind an AirPort BaseStation (graphite) as well as with a netgear router. So the problem, probably lies in your router setup or DHCP rules from the server...

So you're saying FileVault is useful if you need the security and don't care about losing your files? ... I don't think so...

I can explain, if you want. ;-) ... fryke.com is my private domain. I've started macintosh.fryke.com in 2000 or 2001 and accumulated some rumours. After a while, people started sending me mails. Some contained rumours that I didn't see on any other …

Nope. It's a BugFix(c) ;-)

What - you mean 7B74 is NOT NEW ANYMORE?! ;-) ... Still waiting for a new build on ADC myself... *sigh*

Steve Jobs and 'that IBM guy' seemed quite positive about 3 GHz in 'Summer 2004'. So let's for a moment assume that they're right and we'll see 3 GHz PowerPC 970 (or 970+, whatever) in mid-2004. 'Normally', we'd see a speed upgrade to the G5s in Jan…

wonder where they find those builds, though. :P i hope we'll see 7B82 by tomorrow night. it's been a week since 7B74 almost...

But don't take StuffIt Deluxe 8 as a good example. :P ... They've changed ALL icons, so you don't see .sit-Files on first look any longer.

You said: "No matter how good Panther is, I suspect I will have to endure a period of time during which some things just don't work right. A $10 discount won't relieve me of that kind of frustration, but it would make me firmly believe two things: …

only the startup-process apple is changed, too. the initial gray apple still is just a gray apple in 7B74.

iBook moving to widescreen displays? - Why not. 15" and 13" would be nice. iBook moving to G4 processors? - Why not. However, I'd expect a 867 MHz version at least. Now, _if_ Apple would do a 500 MHz version, just to clearly differentiate betwee…

For Puma, for example, it was the third FC build that got named GM. 5G58 was the first Final Candidate, followed shortly by 5G59. Outside of Apple, only 5G62 and 5G64 were seen after, the latter turning GM. The Final Candidate versions have tradi…

About FontBook not being like Suitcase... ;-) You have to adapt. It's as simple as that. If you want to use FontBook instead of Suitcase, you have to adapt to the DIFFERENT system Apple is using for managing fonts. It's a simple system. a) "Ad…

Well, IBM is _not_ sampling G3s at up to 1.5 GHz. We might see a 1 GHz version some day, but certainly not before the PBs are clocked even higher. 1.5 GHz iBook in two months? Sure, I'd buy one, too. Bleh. :P
