Sounds like you're thinking of something like

New chip, new manufacturer, new direction. Time for a new name, something that tells us more than simply "G4" or "G3". Just call it the IBM 970. No worries about what revision a particular chip is, the name is the version. Simple. And besides, the …

Geez, would somebody just drive a stake through Moto's heart already and finish it?! They've shown their ineptitude to be monumental and interest in the PowerPC processor to be minimal. If they want back in then they can prove it by making an innova…

We're gonna get a speed bumped PowerBook G4 before any new form factor, so chill fellas! Faster processors and maybe the DVD-RW this go-round. Once again, my friend in Cupertino said the faster PowerBooks were an outside possibility for this pas…

Steve Jobs is a master of playing one supplier against another. He can sit back and cherry-pick what components to use while the manufacturers kill themselves competing. Both Nvidai and ATi would kill to get an exclusive to do all the graphics for A…

With such an improved new chip I have to assume (the mother of all fsck-ups) that we'll get new a system bus and true DDR RAM. It seems to me that some of the supporting new technology will come out (ala the "Yikes" and even the new DDR PowerMacs) b…

I guess the Gulfstream Jets aren't enough for Steve anymore. Perhaps the board bought him a UFO.

To my mind, the G5 is a 64-bit processor. Anything but a book-e chip will be a rip-off of the expectations we've had for "the next big thing." I don't care how great the next iteration of the G4 is, as long as it's not called "G5." I have no p…

I have a QuickSilver (DP-1GHz) and it's almost silent, especially next to my Athlon XP 1700+ box. The Athlon sounds like a wind tunnel! I bought the QS just as MacWorld opened in New York this month. I'm sick of waiting for the "next big thing" and …

I thought I heard somewhere that the codename for the next (August 2002) PowerMac was "Bellerophon". Greek mythology?!

Apple has said it's going with the G4 for now. So if an IBM-Power4/5 solution is to be, it will be several years before we see it. Years. Does Apple have the sales numbers to convince IBM to make a custom chip for PowerMacs? Plan on seeing Motorola …

Hmmm. Lets see now. AMD's market cap at the close of Friday's trading: $3.5 Billion (a hair under, actually). Apple's cash reserves: $4 Billion. I know, I know, Apple is not going to buy Advanced Micro Devices, and they will not spend their cash res…

I don't think we'll see the G5 for another year, maybe longer. The G4 still has legs and the intent is to scale it to around 1.6 GHz, meaning we'll be getting several more speed bumps before the G5 comes out. I just hope Apple doesn't hold back on…

Even if Apple doesn't use the IBM Power-x chips as they are, at least it is another direction to consider. And it has the single virtue of not including Motorola. Perhaps a scaled down version will find it's way into the PowerMacs. At least the deve…

Like Spooky, I'm waiting for the G5 and hope to see updated internal architecture like Rapid I/O and DDR RAM.

CONFIRMED!!! Mike Dell is a douche-bag.

What's to keep Apple from keeping the iMac screen at 15" and offering other sizes on a BTO basis? The graphics card is up to the task. Perhaps the 22" would require being connected ala the Cube due to its weight.

The only thing that will make me give up my upgraded Yosemite (Sonnet Encore G4 500 MHz, 3 hard drives) is a dual G5. But if it IS introduced anytime soon, I'm SO all over it! Hopefully Apple will keep the price below $4K, but I'll have one no matt…

I like the part about "come get some" by TigerWoods99, and I'll accept anything so long as Jeff Goldblum doesn't say it. If that guy says one more word in an Apple commercial.....well.....there's gonna be trouble. That's all I'm saying.
