I don't know if anyone touched on this (I quickly scanned this thread) but doesn't Motorola "Fib" on their process size? If I'm not mistaken they use a differnet scheme than IBM, Intel, etc... I'm too lazy to verify, but I'm pretty sure what they ca…

Ahhh. All the naysayers of doom and gloom. I'm willing to bet 64MB RAM on GHz mac at the expo....Any takers?

I guess you all forgot about all the G4 rumors running rampant before it's release. It was no different than the G5 rumors flying. Just deal with it.

I don't have a problem with the current naming stucture either. In fact PowerBook is my favorite name for a computer. If they did change the name of the PowerMac the only thing I can think of that I like is the ProMac. I like the G5 but think the…

Maybe we should start a comedy gallery forum

[quote]Originally posted by ac2c: There might be an announcement of the G5 in January and there might even be a demo of a G5 OS X 2.0 in January, but I wouldn't look for a release until mid year. It will take at least that long to proof the G5, to …

[quote]Originally posted by powerdoc: I will believe in this, only when i see this chip. For the moment at the exception of altivec, the PPC chips are far away from the performance of a P4 2 ghz and a AThlon XP 1800 +. I have serious doubt that i…

The only raw numbers I've seen came from the register and they were insanely high. If they are true the 1.2GHz G5 would easily beat a 2GHz P4 and the 1.6GHz would destroy anything in it's path. My guess is that it's not that good, but is still ve…

The better GPU's on the market today can do more calculations than the CPU's, plus they are specialized chips.

MOSR licks my backside.

I really think Apple will go with USB2.0 instead of 1.1 (or whatever it's at). If 2 is no more expensive than 1 to implement why not? It's fully backward compatible with 1 so if there is no big price difference it would be foolish not to.

I bought a 7100 when they first came out and shortly thereafter they switched to PCI and dumped Nubus. This is obviously a switch that was in the works for a while, and they didn't care that I got screwed. AND THEY SHOULDN'T CARE. Apples goal sho…

Oh how I've missed this board.... The speculation.... The BS.... The Name calling... The love...

Actually Amorph, there are third party FireWire PCI cards that have both internal and external bus for firewire. My card has an internal plug.

I see no reason to look at Gigawire until FireWire has reached it's full potential, and even then it needs to be compatible.

So I'm over at the Apple campus the other day taking a tour of my favorite computer maker. I had to use the restroom and when I came out the rest of the tour was gone. I started wandering around trying to catch up with the group when I stumble into …

Eugene, while I agree with your sarcastic post.....I do think we can count on RapidIO as it is touted as a design feature of the G5. One thing I would like to point out is the "north and south" bridge. Why is there no East/West bridge???? Must be…

G5 will be available in a Mac during the 1st quarter of '02.

Since I'm still running on a 7600 w/375MHz G3 upgrade (and Firewire/USB upgrade) I need a new machine. My backup is a Umax C600 with 300MHz upgrade, but mostly used as a storage server since it has all the prewired internal bays. My next purchase…
