  • Chipworks discovered that IBM does not use all the fabrication techniques they said they'd use on the 970FX. It seems to Chipworks that IBM is largely using their 130 nm technology just shrunk to 90 nm with less than great results. My conclusion is …
  • If the Cell cores are PowerPC, cheap and high frequenzy is there a possibility that we might see Cell based accelerator cards? If ATI thinks they can use the main RAM as VRAM using the high bandwidth PCIe bus, woundn't it be possible to strap on a d…

  • Quote: Originally posted by PB That's exactly the problem. The 440 core, if I am not mistaken, cannot exceed 700 MHz in clock frequency. You can of course use many of them (4?) in a Powerbook and have a strong system, but only when you run specia…
  • Quote: Originally posted by PB I am not so sure about that. It is true IBM has already experience in dual core designs, but this has only to do with server chips. Note entirely true, they have experience with custom ASIC designs based on embed…

  • Quote: Originally posted by Powerdoc I will prefer this chip (dual core G4 with on board memory controller) to a G5. I bet Apple won't since e600 is no 64 bit processor. Apple have pretty much equated the G5 with 64 bit processing. The e700 on…

  • Even if Cell isn't officially Power/PowerPC-based it's highly likey that it is. Sony is a recent PowerPC licencee and IBM is talking about their 440 processor more and more as a cell design, especially for their BlueGene/L-supercomputer design.
  • I miss serious workstation class graphics for Macs. Some of the market for quad G5s will ignore them if there aren't any really high performace cards. Shouldn't Apple go after the likes of Sun and SGI here?
