  • Astropad Slate is a new app that turns your iPad into a giant Mac trackpad

Better (and cheaper) buy proper wacom
If you already own an iPad, but not a pen tablet I'd highly recommend this over a Wacom or similar. $20 compared to $500+ for a decent one.

There are a lot of curious artists or photo-processing folks wondering if they would do better editing with a pen on-a-screen. I've spent well over a grand figuring out it takes up too much space for me in a mobile setting. I still use it for specific tasks at the desk, but if I could figure that out for $20 I would have been ahead of the game. THEN if I loved it I could search for the pen tablet that meets my needs, and if not save a few hundred.

  • Defining the Pro in Apple Vision Pro: Who is Apple's target professional?

I think the article's thrust is that this version of the Apple Vision Pro will not have much of a use case for business and enterprise. Someday it may, but it is not with this headset or this year. What the future holds is anyone's guess.

Apple might well move on from this type of design within a generation or two, abandon it entirely for something more appropriate for mobile use, or completely surprise us with something we've not yet envisioned.

AppleInsider is not wrong about the limitations of THIS version, and the reasons those limitations won't be solved for the current AVP.
In general, it seems to be perceived by actual purchasers as an appropriate personal entertainment device if allowing for some discomfort, but not having much, if any, benefit over existing solutions for productivity purposes.

Does Apple normally release several research papers at such an early stage in developing features?

This one hasn't really been tested yet, just 13 people have given it a try, but Apple is already announcing it?  I've always seen them as keeping their internal development quiet and under-the-radar and competitors guessing, before announcing to the world what they're up to with a consumer-ready feature all but complete.  Rather than these PR pieces intended to "delight the customer" it seems more likely this is meant to delight the market.
the ai industry is fairly open about advancements. apple does it to attract ai talent. that's why they also have https://machinelearning.apple.com/
Machine learning is not Generative AI.

Machine learning analyzes existing data to find patterns and make predictions based on it. Generative AI is focused on generating new data.
I like this article that explains it.

  • New EU rules would force Apple to open up iMessage

To update the story, the EU has now determined that iMessage is not a dominant service in the EU. The service is safe from competition authorities.

  • Apple Music's increased spatial audio royalties are taking money from independents

I had misunderstood the original announcement and wrongfully assumed Apple was using it's own funds to bump up the royalties for spatial audio. I get the smaller labels and independent artists' concerns entirely if that extra 10% payout is being diverted from the same pool of subscriber money they've always been paid from. The biggest players get more than before, and the little guy gets even less.

It's a tough way to earn any money unless you're Universal, Sony, or Warner.
