  • Apple sells up to 180,000 Apple Vision Pro, says Kuo

Reports circulating today calim bots were able to order 1000's of the Vision Pro units, despite Apple requiring face scans and an Apple ID. Somehow, they were able to bypass both of those. Just one particular buyer was able to order 1,592 of them, and there were far more than a dozen bots at work snapping up units.

Based on what I can gather from claims, I would not be shocked to learn upwards of 20% of the sales total was purchased by scam bots, whose owners then listed them for sale at ridiculous prices on eBay etc.

  • Apple & Google close to rolling out final Bluetooth tracker misuse standard

According to the email I received today, the IETF is NOT ready to move ahead with a standard, so neither is Apple, but they are closer to approving a working group to begin finalizing things. That may happen about the first of February.

I'm still seeing at least another 4 months, so well beyond the date promised by Apple in an agreement with Google for enabling cross-platform tracking notices.

  • Judge denies Apple a sanction it demanded on patent troll's lawyer

Yes, the patents granted really seem like what anyone does on a  smartphone in almost every interaction. And, frankly, mostly seem like very obvious functions. The fact that it's been dragging on for so long means this is really complicated. I get that it's a giant pool of money and everyone who's ever contributed something interesting wants a piece of it.

Other than doing cleanup, for example this Apple request to the court, it's over. Google won the very long-running battle a few months ago and succeeded in invalidating the patent claims on top of it. They deserve praise for not rolling over to settle like many of their tech brethren. It's going to be nigh-impossible for Arendi to continue wielding those claims against anyone else going forward.

  • Judge denies Apple a sanction it demanded on patent troll's lawyer

They may not be bullying as much with Google not only beating them in court, but getting the tech-threatening patents invalidated.

By the way, Samsung and Microsoft, like Apple having settled and licensed the patents, asked the court to seal certain testimony and were also denied.

  • Apple Silicon M3 Pro competes with Nvidia RTX 4090 GPU in AI benchmark [u]

I think that the benchmark using the Whisper model for speech transcription is a great way to compare these chips. It's impressive that the newer Apple chips, like the M2 Ultra and M3 Max, outperformed Nvidia's GPU in processing time. This shows that Apple is seriously upping its game in terms of processing power and efficiency.
If you read through to the bottom of the article you will see the author has revised his findings, as they were originally flawed. The new Apple chips did not outperform Nvidia's.
