  • US lawmakers urge Apple CEO Tim Cook to reinstate HKmap Live app

I can't stand China one bit.  China's policies and attitudes are the worst for global trade and intellectual property.  I can't think of anything better than its citizens to rise up once and for all and topple that government, Hong Kong being a prime example of the distrust its citizens have towards the Chinese government.

That being said, our government should butt out about what Apple should do with its business in China.  We don't like it when China tries to tell us what to do, so neither should we.

These politicians are only making a ruckus to ensure their re-election.  Nothing more.
I agree with you fully on this. The thing most people miss is the protesters achieved their goal of blocking the extradition law and now they risk looking like basic anarchists. This will hurt in future protests since people won’t be able to relate to your grievance; people will simply assume you’re a malcontent.

  • Apple countersuing to knock out iPhone keyboard patent claim

I just don’t get these guys with these patents. When you read this patent, it is clearly a mechanical keyboard trying to figure out how to get around the miserable user experience of the early devices. It uses fixed keys with indicators on each key to let you know which modifier function is active. I have seen similar attempts on old digital storage oscilloscopes. Clumsy but workable.

The only thing the current touchscreen keyboards did was show how bad this invention really was.

  • Google Chrome update corrupting some macOS installs -- but there's a fix

I find it heartwarming that this problem was caused by Google, a company that can do no wrong in so many people's eyes. I'm surrounded by people that insist on choosing Google products, and refuse to look at anything else. And they say that Mac users live in a closed environment? Nothing is more closed than choosing one vendor for your productivity software.

Simply because it's free. Not because its better, more secure, gives more privacy, but because it’s free, or so they think. That’s a helluva way to choose.
When the choice on the PC side was between Google Chrome and Explorer it was almost a no-brainer to use Chrome. Now with Chrome on your home PC's and in offices and businesses too where you could log in and check your mail and news, save your passwords and quick access page for your most visited sites when that person adds a Mac then Chrome seems a natural choice.
If you want to have a Google Account.

Why would anyone on a Mac ditch Safari for Chrome is beyond me. This piece o garbage is a resource hog on par with some scientific computing programs I’m running.

Safari is one of the high points in my choosing of Apple hardware. But to each their own, dumb as it may appear...
I feel the same. Chrome is sooooo slow to load it is painful ands it’s memory/CPU footprint is massive.

  • Apple says EU exaggerates the importance of Ireland to its business

I can't understand how any government can change tax laws, or any law for that matter, and make those laws retroactive.
Not that this is what's happening here anyway, but why not?  It's pretty simple.
It’s exactly what’s happening. The EU has loosely goosey tax laws allowing the EC to interpret them any way they want and not even present any real evidence.
