Apple Pay growth will make it the next antitrust fight with regulators
mjtomlin said:What's next? Apple will have to allow other platforms to replace iOS on the iPhone? Sorry, but as the maker of the physical device, Apple should be able to determine what part of the hardware is and is not open for 3rd party access.
It would be one thing if Apple's hardware had a monopoly, but it doesn't. But even then, there are still many other ways for people to make a payment. It is not Apple's fault that the banks in the US dragged their feet for so long in bringing contactless payments to the market. Other countries have had tap-to-pay for a decade now - no smartphone required.

Facebook launches new initiative to fight against iOS 14 ad tracking protections
From the article:
“Apple wants to stop this level of sophisticated tracking. This kind of invasive business practice is exactly what Apple's privacy campaigns and iOS features are meant to protect users agains.”Apple doesn’t want to “stop” the tracking. They just want the user to be fully aware of what is happening to their online behavior data and require them to acknowledge it by having to opt-in for it to continue. Facebook knows their sneaky invisible tracking rubs most people the wrong way and that’s what will cost them. If they had been transparent from the beginning, the big hit as they call it wouldn’t happen. -
Facebook attacks Apple over iOS 14 ad privacy program in full-page newspaper ads
Am I wrong but the consumer can still allow tracking if they so wish? Isn’t this just giving the user more control of their data? Facebook is really saying they know what they are doing is creepy and exploitive and they know most people will say no to their request. Better to do it without consent and beg forgiveness later. . Isn’t it sad there is even a conversation about justifying a company’s exploitive data collection without user consent. -
Ecobee adds HomeKit Secure Video support to SmartCamera with Voice Control
I agree with July23 that one of the main advantages of HSV and in HomeKit generally is you don’t have to register with yet another site to use the device. It will be interesting to see how the 14.3 update handles HK firmware updates. It will be great if I don’t have to go through the manufacture’s site to get an update. It is one of my pet peeves that, for example, I have to register with there site to get a firmware update for my Wemo plugs. It is just another chance my info will be hacked and yes I use different passwords for different sites. Sorry for the rant but it really bothers me when you need to register to get full functionality from a device I paid for.
