  • Latest iOS 19 redesign rumor hinges on sketchy iMessage mockup

I heard some shaky podcaster with an unhealthy view on Apple’s failure in AI talking about how the US isn’t safe to visit the other day.

    People in glass houses…

Totally not surprised this happened although I didn't expect it to take this long. Tim Cook is the proverbial iron fist in a velvet glove. It's worth recounting this tale from an urgent meeting Cook had called:

"One day back then, he convened a meeting with his team, and the discussion turned to a particular problem in Asia. “This is really bad,” Cook told the group. “Someone should be in China driving this.” Thirty minutes into that meeting Cook looked at Sabih Khan, a key operations executive, and abruptly asked, without a trace of emotion, “Why are you still here?”

Khan, who remains one of Cook’s top lieutenants to this day, immediately stood up, drove to San Francisco International Airport, and, without a change of clothes, booked a flight to China with no return date, according to people familiar with the episode. The story is vintage Cook: demanding and unemotional."

Very much vintage Cook. Not 2025 Cook from what we see recently.

  • Apple goes to court to fight UK demand for iCloud encryption backdoor

As a protest, Apple could rebrand the iPad as the iPad- (iPad Minus) or "iPad Snooper" in the UK. The fact that UK iPads now have less security is the real reason why sales will drop in the UK, and a rebranding won't make it worse. A rebranding will force the government to reconsider due to the bad publicity it will get.

Whilst I think this is a really bad move by the UK government what seems to be ignored is that Google, Microsoft etc already all such access and never had an encrypted option.

  • Newly-appointed Apple CFO denies 75% App Store profit claim in UK trial

I’m old enough to remember boxed (full packaged product) software which as a reseller we made 70% margin on. Add in a distributor’s margins, margin of production company etc and what was left for the developer was tiny.

I’m happy to pay for Apple to check any software I load on my phone isn’t full of spyware or other such things and to pay a fee for doing that.

Want to side load some malware? That’s your choice I guess
