  • Apple invites select developers to Apple silicon Mac labs ahead of launch

What can they do in 30 minutes?

That seems too short to do a comprehensive profiling, much less offering significant code advice. There must be something in the way of followup.
Sounds like about enough time to load an app, runs some test and look for glaring failures.   As for follow ups I don't think there will be a lot of time unless Apple considers your app critical.

  • Early 2021 Apple Silicon iMac said to have 'A14T' processor

    This rumor again.

There is no way Apple is going to use an A-series SoC in a Mac - not even a low-end MacBook. Those SoCs were designed specifically for iOS and the need to be highly efficient. There's a reason Apple said they were designing a new family of SoCs for the Mac - different needs. Using an A14X for both the iPad Pro and a MacBook, means one of those is not as optimized as Apple usually prefers.
Nope.   Apple will use the “A” variants where it makes sense.   That very likely means a Mac Book like device.   Think about it they have weak the processor for the iPad Pros and frankly those tweaks are useful on a Mac Book.

As for iOS it is the same OS underneath as Mac OS.  The A series is perfectly capable of running Mac OS.   Frankly this has already been demonstrated with the development rig.

As for the Mac Book Airs and Mac Book Pros of course they will have better chips for those platforms.   For one thing the platform permits such thermally.   More importantly to be competitive Apple needs high performance.  I’d expect that these chips would be an entirely order of magnitude faster than a Mac Book.

Mac Book conceptually is nothing more than a fast iPad with keyboard running a better OS.

I would be very disappointed if they release a very environment unfriendly Mac like the current iMac, where the screen cannot be reused if the motherboard fails, or SSD failure leads to the computer being useless.

I also hope for more ‘guts’ design wise. These mock-ups are essentially just monitors. The Mac Pro has its own look/style and I hope they’ll go for something less conventional for the iMac as well.
Not to pour hot water on your wishes but things like the SSD will likely be integrated just like they do on the IPads.  The drive will simply be a couple of chips soldered to the motherboard.    Hopefully they get smart and supply use with an open M.2 slot on these machines.

Guts for me would be Apple building open innovative desktop hardware.  A Mini that doesn’t suck and even an XMac for pros.   Guts would be a desktop lineup that is radically different than today’s nonsense.

It seems to me the primary advantage of Apple Silicon is the power advantages, and that would seem to indicate that MacBooks would certainly be up first. IIRC from WWDC though, Apple released Apple Silicon based MacMinis to developers, so there has to be a production facility for that model already in place - albeit one that likely has a limited, but scalable, production capability.

The primary advantage of Apple Silicon is not power usage it is things like Neural Engine, and special function units.

  • Apple rebuts House antitrust report, says developers 'primary beneficiaries' of App Store

Honestly Apple needs to be screwed over royally.   A different management team could have taken the company in a less controversial direction and made more money.   Instead the drove the company with anti consumer policies, a massive amount of corporate double speak and frankly a lot of crappy  products that didn’t live up to Apple’s legacy (Mac).
