  • Apple says the iPhone is a valuable readiness aid in a world impacted by climate change

Climate constantly changes, to think we can actually have any impact on significantly altering the climate is the height of arrogance. It's been warmer in the past than today and its been cooler, we know this..... but somehow altering a carbon footprint is going to save us? This is not to say that we should not try and be prudent in the use of resources, but the proposed changes all mandate government control of your life and all that will do is make things worse for people, not better.
Yeah, f**k the climate. It's not like all that 97% of the scientific community (some of them dedicate their lives to study climate and the impact humans have on it) are right, right?
That 97% figure is total nonsense based on a poll taken of scientist attending a climate conference.    In other words scientist with a vested interest in promoting the idea that the climate will change drastically due to human activity.   In other words we are not talking about a ethical sampling of the scientific community.

  • Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855 is over a year behind Apple's A12 Bionic, lacks a premium Androi...

Interesting  chip, and one long article.   The problem as I see it is that Apple needs for somebody to put this in high end devices, especially tablets.   To put it simply they need the competition.  Frankly there is t anAndroid tablet worth adamn right now and a straight Linux based tablet is even harder to find.  The lack of competition in this arena leaves Apple free too charge high prices, this isn’t good in the long run.

  • Tensions between Apple and China continue as state media rips lack of Messages censoring

I still have a hard time understanding how one could effectively censor nudity in an app like iMessage.

In any event if Apple wants to survive they need to get manufacturing out of China.   No matter what the USA does there will be a war area of the world.   It IS the primary reason China built up its economy.   The government there doesn't give a damn about its people, they want money to build up an army to settle old scores.  There educational system is built around conditioning the populace to blame Chinas woes on the outside world.

It is amazing that so many companies have been gullible about China and so willing to to put all of their eggs in one basket.   It wont last and frankly the saber rattling has already started.  The first to go will be Taiwan with Japan a close second.  I wouldn't be surprised if most of Indochina gets occupied at some point.   The writing is on the wall, hopefully the idiots doing business in China wake up and get manufacturing out if China.

Sadly Apple has become too greedy to care.  When SHTF in China Apple will suffer big time maybe even collapse as a viable company.    Of course liberals will blame this on Trump even though China has been working on this for decades.

Censorship isn't a China problem, we suffer from it here in the USA, often as the result of big companies creating arbitrary policies of discrimination.   The problem is rather the government of China and its intentions with respect to other countries.  Sadly this will just lead to more suffering for the good people in China that really could use a break.

  • New rumor claims 2018 iPad Pros will be smaller, drop headphone jacks

That notch is quite unsightly on an iPhone X, but on an iPad it's just unthinkably unnecessary.  The quest to shrink bezels to nothingness is driving this insanity, and it is NOT "insanely great" either.  Bezels should be as thick as that notch so there is no notch at all on an iPad.  A notch is just not necessary, especially since you grab the device with your entire hands in a very different way than you do with an iPhone.

There once was a time when Apple knew better than I did about design.  There was time when they knew better what I wanted than I did, and when I saw an Apple product announcement I was filled with joy and excitement.  That joy has not entirely vanished but in recent years I am more annoyed than happy with what Apple kicks out.  It's either Johnny Ive minimalism taken to an extreme (notches, butterfly keyboards, missing SD card slots, etc.), or perhaps it's Johnny Ive apathy.  Maybe it is the lack of fanny-kicking by Steve Jobs.  Or maybe it is all of the above.  But as long as we keep buying their stuff and worshiping all of Apple's design decisions with criticism or question, there is no incentive for them to change course and design something better.  If Apple continues down this path, I shutter to think what kind of designs we'll have 10 years hence.
The stupid moves like the headphone jack likely have little to do with Ive.   When Apple puts a custom port in a machine it is there for lock in.   Vendors dont have to sign up to use the analog jack, lighting though is controlled by Apple and thus you have to be in Apples good graces too use it.    Lighting gives Apple the opportunity to screwcover both the consummer and the third party supplier.
Paranoid nonsense born of ignorance. The Lightning port was implemented before USB-C was a word. It doesn’t “lock in” because there’s nothing to lock in. You can buy non-Apple cables anywhere. Removal of the legacy analog headphone jack came much later, and again you are free to use anyone’s headphones, wired or wireless, not just Apple’s.

You seem to think you’re being screwed a lot. It’s quite odd. If you’re unhappy, you should try to make changes in life to make yourself happier. I guess PCs and Androids are a first step....?
Apparently you have never heard of Apples MiFi program and the authentication required to use lighting.  It helps to understand the issues.

No headphone jack, cool. That's one more Apple product off my bi-annual shopping list, saving money just keeps getting easier. :)
Sadly that is the way i feel.  If we dont get something better in return what is the point.
