  • Apple modular Mac Pro launch coming in 2019, new engineering group formed to guarantee fut...

So fully 6 years between them by 2019, that's crazy to think of the gap left. That a very long time in silicon terms.

The "pro workflow team" is encouraging. I'm hoping for myself it allows a lot of min/maxing, not fixed to relatively high end hardware on all parts like the iMac Pro. I need a lot of CPU for data science, but a GPU goes entirely unused, so I wouldn't need Navi Pro with HBM2 adding to the cost.
We will see buut im still not convinced Apple gets it!    As you point out "pro" needs vary widely and Apple just doesnt sem to understand this.

Apple whines about single digit sales for the Mac Pro but you have to ask what did they expect from the trash can.   As you noted not everybody needs dual GPU cards, in fact integrated GPUs can be good enough.   Likewise for some storage is the big issue.    Which brings up the idea that the machine must be a faamiky of components one if which needs to be a storage array.

What is really interesting here is all the focus on performance testing.   If this was an Intel platform  performance would be limited by the Intel supplied chips. In otherwords not much they can control performance wise.   This makes me wonder if the machine will be one if the rumored ARM based machines.  It would throw the industry a curve to have the first ARM based Mac be based on an ARM processor.  There are at least two commercial chips available today that could lead to a very high core count Mac Pro.  So maybe a 64 core Mac Pro is on the way.

Crazy?    Maybe but some of the statements just seem weird if this was an Intel based machine.

  • Editorial: Bloomberg spins Apple's Event as a desperate, blind stab for cheap iPads in edu...

Well i see DED is back to wasting bandwidth with a ton of crap that doesnt even touch upon Apples real problems in efucation. The number one issue with iPads is the lack of a keyboard which makes anything other than tribial text entry a psin.

The second issue  with iPad is pricing.  Apple in its ecessive greed raised the price on the whole line somehow completely mis understanding what people expect from the electronics industry!!  That is people in general, schools simply dont have the luxury of paying what ever Apple wants.

In the end is Apple wants education they need to ship a laptop form device.   That device should be ARM based and hopefully running on a powerful OS like Mac OS.  Obviously needs change with grade levels but in the end students and schools need flexibility.  Hell iPad doesnt even have a clean easily accessible USB port to make a science class interesting.

  • Guns N' Roses' singer Axl Rose compares Apple CEO Tim Cook to Donald Trump

Wow a whole bunch of ignorance in this thread.   First off it is well known that the streaming services are screwing over the artist.   Apple is one of those services.

Second; being a CEO means having the ability to demand things that people may not want to do.   While Trump may be more forward, his behavior is a trait all CEOs have to an extent.   Dont confuse a public image with a CEO's ability to be a real bastard at work.

Finally it is the CEO's responsibility to work in the best interest of his company!    This means milking your suppliers for all they are worth.   Remember Cook is known for supply chain management and in the case the musicians are the suppliers.

  • Rumor: Apple buying screens for 13" MacBook, could signal end of MacBook Air

There is still a lot to like about the MBA:

The only MacBook with that type of keyboard
    Price
    Ports
    Magsafe
    Portability comparable to the Macbook
    i5 or i7 CPU
    HD camera
    Longer battery runtime than Macbook
    SD card slot

I suspect it is still a good seller in spite of the low res screen. When I visit colleges I notice that it is the most common model used by students. With an educational discount they can probably get their hands on the base model for about $800.
Im not sure Apple cares if a new model has features users want or need.   I could see this replacement having exactly one USB-C port and a splash screen that is the middle finger pointing at you.

Unless somebody with significant influence at Apple turns things around i can see MacBooks going portless.  Apple seems to be in denial when it comes to users that do more with their machines than watching you tube videos.    Combine that with watered down MBPs and the future doesnt look that bright for tech users at Apple.

  • Law firm that extracted $450M settlement in Apple e-books case is going after company for ...

So the people here wanting to sue would rather have their phones crash when they need more power than the battery can deliver instead of throttled performance during peak demands? You can bet they would sue over that too.
That is total nonsense.   This is pretty simple kid it is about not being informed as to battery condition and the systems decision to significantly slow the processor down.   In a nut shell it has nothing to do with the battery but rather a company making drastic changes to a functioning device without users or owners knowledge.

I really dont understand peoples need to twist the facts here to try to defend Apple.  It isnt the battery aging here nor the tech they implemented to deal with it that is the problem.  The problem is the lack of communications.    In Apples case it is pretty pathetic.   I can imagine a few shareholder law suits to go along with the consummer actions as this sort of behavior isnt well accepted in the business world.   Seriously would you trust your investments with a company so deceptive.
