  • Apple doesn't care about games, long-time Apple Arcade developers say

Apple TV.  Especially with an M processor could be the console if they wanted to put a small amount of investment in and get some exclusives.  With the added benefit of probably being able to support iPhone/iPad and Mac as well with derivative versions.

I’m not a console gamer in the least (we have a Switch to play Mario Kart as a family ).   And not much of a mobile gamer any longer and my favorite Mac games are the complex strategy games like Europa Universalis and that sort of thing or Railroad Tycoon types.  But I see the Apple TV and what it could be when I see all the time my son spent on his PlayStation (that he bought with his own money as I didn’t want it in the house) and the money he spent in monthly online services.

  • App Review's sudden enforcement of an in-app gift rule catches a meditation app off guard

My comment is not to take sides.  Rather to elaborate on what I think is Apple’s motivation.   By allowing non-commissioned ways to transfer money, they are owning up was for unscrupulous app developers to try and get around paying Apple’s fees for using on-app purchases.  They could try and do this by mis-labeling what is being offered so that it fell under hypothetical free tipping rules.  Or by offering “free” downloads and then the ability to “tip” the author/creator.  That sort of thing.   To me TJ’s appears to be what Apple is doing

  • Apple and Meta's latest fight is over social media boosted post fees on iPhone

I’m not a Meta fan, in no way shape or form. But I have a hard time finding a tear for Apple’s dramatic stance. If Apple thinks that managing fees has a cost, then they should simply stop requiring that developers use their transactional platform. Less use, less transactions, less costs overall. Stop forcing developers to use Apple transactional platform and leave reimbursements to the developers. The current system doesn’t adequately protect customers anyway as abusive developers still manage to charge abusive fees without Apple even batting an eye.
So let’s charge profit making entities a sales or install cost for their apps instead. So Facebook would have to pay Apple to carry their free app.

Apps in-app purchase fees are a way to get paid for the service provided by the App Store and iOS itself.   Distributing Facebook for meta has enormous cost.

The only way I buy any fitness equipment is if I buy it outright and it’s fully functional without any sort of subscription.   Period.
