MacBook Pro with SD card slot, no Touch Bar coming in 2021
For the life of me, I can’t understand why anyone is assuming that a return of MagSafe means a return of either of the old MagSafe connectors when we know for a fact that neither of them are used in MagSafe on iPhones. Indeed, given the sequence in time, I submit that it’s vastly more likely that this leak is more likely to mean some iteration of the current MagSafe tech, which is consistent with a recent Apple patent that showed MagSafe charging pads in the palm rests for charging an iPhone. -
Apple Watch may be able to detect coronavirus infection days before tests can
GeorgeBMac said:cabodoc said:Interesting idea, but fairly useless as a predictor of Covid infection. HRV is highly variable within the population- highly correlated with age, but more importantly is highly variable within each individual. Mine varies from the teens to greater than 50 on any given night and is affected by an infinite number of influences - rest, exercise, sleep, alcohol and who knows what else. Could probably add corona virus to the list, but would also need to add every other known or unknown infection......
Respiratory rate (measured while in deep sleep) has been shown to be a more sensitive metric - it is remarkably consistent, so any significant rise (e.g. from 15 to 17+) would suggest that something is stressing your body greatly.Thank you -- that saved me from having to type the same thing. Plus, you said it better. The analogy might be: "81% of people who drown ate ice cream in the weeks before drowning". While that is obviously true, it does not fly the other way: because you ate ice cream doesn't mean you're going to drown. Likewise, because your HRV dropped doesn't mean you are infected with the virus.I would only add that I have heard some fitness experts claim that Apple's HRV cannot be used because they measure it at random intervals and HRV, like Blood Pressure and temperature, tend to vary throughout the day. So it needs to be measured at the same time and in the same way each day. Some recommend checking before you get out of bed in the morning. -

I think that’s what you’re looking for. Apologies if I misunderstood. -

Two different folding iPhone prototypes allegedly pass first quality checks
GeorgeBMac said:longpath said:For me, the water resistance and improved durability of the latest iPhones is far more valuable than the ability to fold into something smaller than the iPhone 12 Mini. Indeed, I'm more interested in seeing the water resistance and durability spread to iPads than any kind of folding ability for either iPhones or iPads.
Why would you assume that they are exclusive? That's it's either/or?Show me a hinge that has an integral hermetic seal, which remains hermetic through its entire service life. You will note that the hinges used in watertight doors on ships and submarines are not part of the seal; but merely positioning mechanism for the seal. In the case of the iPhone or iPad, either the hinge is part of the seal, or the location of the hinge is in a free flooding area, which further aggravates the loss of interior volume that the hinge itself already imposes.
