  • Apple's budget iPhone SE 4: what the rumor mill says is on the way

I’m curious as to how the prediction of a single rear facing camera was deduced. The current SE derives its design, including its single rear facing camera , from the iPhone 8, which likewise had a single rear facing camera. The iPhone 14 sports 2 rear facing cameras, so I’m curious why it seemed more likely to the author that Apple would redesign this aspect of the design source, in order to reduce the number of rear facing cameras. I could see the point if the design was being borrowed from the XR; but this seems like a bizarre deviation from the SE design strategy through all three of its existing iterations. I’d very much like to hear the reasoning behind this prediction.

  • If you're getting dozens of password reset notifications, you're being attacked

I was targeted with this attack. I suspected it was an attack and supposed that meant my password was breached, so I manually altered it and signed out everything signed into my account, to shut down this attack vector. I don’t know how much data was compromised prior to me resetting my password.

  • M3 Ultra Mac Studio rumored to debut in mid-2024 -- without a Mac Pro

As long as the Mac Pro offers no further processor tier above what the Studio offers, its phase out seems inevitable. I don’t see there being enough demand for PCI Express slots to cover the production costs. If, on the other hand, an additional processor tier above the maximum offering of the Studio becomes available, then I could see the Pro being with us a long time. The loss of the MPX module compatibility already weighs against the current Pro.

  • Mac Pro M2 review - Maybe a true modular Mac will come in a few more years

In my view, the lack of processor & RAM differentiation from the offerings of the Mac Studio is the Achilles heel of the Mac Pro. If there was an extra tier of processor & RAM options exclusive to the Pro, it would be a lot easier to justify the extra weight & volume. Studios in Sonnet rack mounts take up a lot less rack space. Free standing Studios take up a lot less desk, or under desk, real estate. The absence of MPX support is also problematic, as the only internal RAIDs I know of are MPX modules. For a 3D animator, the Studio paired with an external RAID makes more sense, whether they’re working in Unreal or C4D & then overlaying 2D effects in After Effects, a workflow that’s won multiple Emmy awards for multiple Olympic Games coverage.

  • The cheesegrater Mac Pro could still be the best Mac ever made

It's also huge. If you haven't seen one in person, it's almost certainly bigger than you expect. And heavy. And the "handles" have fairly sharp edges, which make it unpleasant to move around on a regular basis.
In my role as a engineer in broadcast television, there are completely fair criticisms. The weight and sharpness of the handles destroyed a number of my trousers, slashing across my thighs. 18Kg, with sharp handles is a literal & metaphorical pain to move around. Why those handles lacked bevels, such as the cylinder had along its thermal exhaust, is utterly beyond me. While it’s perfectly fair to note the cylinder’s limits, it was a safer machine to install and work on. The early RAID cards for the early cheesegraters drew my blood on too many occasions, when I had to pull them to get the numbers from the card to order cache batteries.

The current MacPro thankfully omits those sharp edges, so their heft is distinctly less hazardous.

I hope that the Apple Silicon successor will continue this progress.
