  • Editorial: Apple's AirPods, iPhone 7, Series 2 Watch out... journalists

Mr. Dilger strikes again with this terrific piece!
Are we really calling people "fascists" before a single iPhone 7 or Series 2 watch has been delivered?  I hope sales are good even though I disagree with living in a world of dongles, but maybe we should see how the market responds before we declare victory.

What do we say when it's Microsoft who is "struggling to satisfy pre-orders?  We say they didn't build very many. Interestingly, Apple has decided not to reveal early, actual numbers this time around. This is not a good sign that Apple actually disagrees with the predictions of some of these journalists.

Finally, how is it "very clear" that iPhone sales are "snowballing"?   No table or link is provided. We know we saw peak sales already, but we have also seen that the comparison year was an anomaly and, excluding that, the general line remains pointed up at the same slope, but "snowballing" implies non-linear increases. This is the first I've heard that for any smartphone in the last few years, and sounds like fanboy hyperbole to me.

Yes, the treatment of Apple from tech media seems unfair, but this article has some serious issues.

  • Purported 'iPhone 7 Plus' packaging shows Lightning to Headphone Jack Adapter in box, 256GB storage

This sure does have the stink of plausibility on it.

It sure does seem that Apple is creating a significant marketing challenge for themselves.
Including the adapter would pretty much extinguish the complaints.
Wrong!  The cost of the dongle is almost irrelevant. It's the fact that you will never have it with you when you need it, and it's overall inelegance that offends me.  It seems acceptable on paper, but in the real world it sucks. I had a win CE phone that required one and the end result was I could not use it to listen to music.

Heads need to roll for this.

Making the phone thin and weak to make it nice was stupid.

Tim Cook is not free from blame. Ultimately he's the top guy and needs to take the fall for this. I'm not saying he should be fired but he needs to get the blame.

Apple desperately needs a shake up at the top. I'm sorry but most of the top level guys seem lazy and comfortable.

I would fire Tim Cook personally, I know that isn't a popular opinion.

Lern to read. The problem isn't because the device was big and thin, it was because of the touch controllers, since only some iphone units have this problem. Some even came with the problem out of the box.
According to ifixit, the root cause of the problem is the bending issue. The latter happens at the height of the volume buttons, exactly the place where the touch controllers are put and are getting bad soldering.  In the iPhone 6s the touch controllers are moved to a different place, so no issue

So....do we all still believe the "only 9 phones were bent" argument from 2 years ago?  The rabid apologists from then seem strangely silent now, or did they go away when Apple switched to a stronger alloy?  Let's all take a moment to think back to that time the next time Apple and Tim make another assertion that seems incongruent with reality.

Headphone jack removal apologists, take note. Wireless not always as great as it sounds.

It's actually a shame.  I would take a Windows phone over an Android phone any day.  At least Microsoft designed its own OS as apposed to Android's iOS knockoff.
What's really sad is that Microsoft (Ballmer) really screwed the pooch on this opportunity.  They did a blunder as bad as PalmOS.  Honestly, I think they just don't have the talent needed to make a stellar mobile OS and ecosystem.  Being an engineer for Microsoft just isn't as glamorous to a potential candidate as it would be working for Apple or Google.

Still, that being said... I guess Microsoft should be having one of these events for its phone business?

I was just wondering how many of the mock funeral employees have been let go.
