    FUD.

It's a private method for comparing an image hash against a specific database of image hashes.

No indication that it'll become a generic API, or a feature for anyone else to use.
No indication that there will be any way for it to be hijacked, short of rooting the entire phone, in which case all bets are off anyway.
No indication that it could be used to search for anything other than images, or more specifically the hashes of those images.
No indication that it couldn't be shut down any time Apple wanted to shut it down.
”No indication” seems kind of naive.  Just because there’s no indication now, doesn’t mean this doesn’t change in the future.

  • Senators want to make social media liable for spreading health misinformation

But even the truth can be manipulated. The news media is now reporting about breakthrough infections, side effects, etc. that are being used by the conspiracy theorists to claim the vaccines are useless.
I think the “conspiracy theorists” would just like to understand what percentage of people who have contracted this new strain were also vaccinated.  That statistic would decide whether those asking the question are “conspiracy theorists” or not.

Either it works, or it doesn’t work. And if it doesn’t work, it sounds like we’ll be playing a cat and mouse game between variants and updates vaccines for the rest of our lives.  For a virus that 99.9% of people recover from.

Disclaimer: I have nothing against vaccines and have been vaccinated.

It is certainly amusing that it’s usually the same people that want “Net Neutrality” with the telecom carriers who also want more censoring of “misinformation.”

In short: Telecoms can’t be allowed to prioritize Internet traffic based upon fair market, but the US federal government is allowed to filter what “information” can be shared on the internet.

How shocking that a private American corporation should be required to comply with the laws of another - OMG - sovereign nation.  Who needs that - our corporations and our government should of course dictate how every other country should handle their internal affairs. We know best for everyone!
Craig’s first words when talking Privacy yesterday were, verbatim: “At Apple, we believe Privacy is a fundamental human right.”

You can’t make a statement like that and then turn around and support a communist regime’s ability to inject itself into consumer’s personal information.  If you truly believed Privacy was a “fundamental human right,” you would fight at every turn to preserve it.

Given the way Apple behaves, they should just say, “We believe privacy is important.”  Words matter…especially when you describe your personal values.

  • Rudy Giuliani says warrant illegal since agents already had data 'from the iCloud'

There is literally no reason for this to be an article on AI.  Because he used the term “iCloud” in his argument?   And the last three paragraphs of the article - general commentary on Apple’s work with government requests - have been covered, ad nauseam, in other pieces.

    Stay out of politics, please.
