  • Apple's iPhone is most influential gadget ever, says TIME

I'm not an apple fanboy, and I don't own an iPhone, but you have to be living in serious denial if you don't credit the iPhone for modern day touch based computers. Everything from Android to Windows 10 is because of the iPhone. The Nintendo Wii U is because of the iPhone. And it's not just products, but paradigms like digital music, mobile gaming, app ecosystems and controlling your lights at home. Asking your phone stupid questions and getting answers.

Mobile first computing and today's smartphone is so powerful and can do so much, and it's changed everyone's lives. iPhone could literally just take spot 1 thru 5 because it's just that important.

The argument to me isn't if the original iPhone changed everything (it did duh), but is it doing enough against Google and other companies to stay a world class technology company that changes how we use technology? 3D Touch and Apple Watch didn't reinvent the wheel so lets see what iPhone 7 is like. I just don't feel the culture of innovation at Apple like I did when Steve was around.

I have seen some genuinely disturbing comments here and elsewhere WRT this sad story. People making jokes or trying to link Apple's earnings to this or evening trying to link this to the Chinese factory suicides (which were highly motivated by the payouts factory employees' families would get in the case of a suicide). It is highly offensive and makes light of a tragedy. He was a human being that we literally have zero insight into why he chose to take his own life and people think it is ok to say whatever they want.

I wish articles like this weren't even open to comments because it leads to the worst of people coming through.

The offense is largely in your mind. It is unfortunate that somebody takes this route but a rational view taken would cause one to realize that the planet is over populated and as such this death is insignificant. The idiot here is the guy that took his life and frankly it is right and proper to make light of his idiocy.

As for your wish for censorship, you can shove that idea in some dark place. We have in this world far to many people that want to silence the message instead of debuting a reasonable rebuttal. The tendency to go PC in this country sucks and frankly it is something that needs to come to an end.

Yes, that's the..."rational view". I prefer an incredibly vapid view, formed by edgy internet cynicism brought on by anonymity of these services. It's also an uninformed, baseless, regurgitation of ignorant understanding of mental health. "his idiocy"? Suicide is the result of a very complex set of problems that is increasingly linked to physical ailments in the brain. Imbalances in the workings of emotional centers, that can cause people to behave and choose actions a healthy brain wouldn't choose. Much like cancer would create reactions in your body that a healthy body wouldn't have.

Don't pretend to take the high road and claim anti-PC culture bullshit. That type of argument has transformed from a reasonable critique of college campuses and young adults to a catch-all sledgehammer for stupid people to argue that acting stupid should be protected from being told to shut the fuck up.

Hello, perhaps AppleInsider is not the best place to ask and learn about how stock buy back works but most everyone seems pretty knowledgeable (at least more than me).  So I wanted to ask.  I purchased my shares at $127.00.  Yes, it hasn't been easy to watch the share price plummet on me but I will hold onto the stock so as long as I use Apple products (which I do).

My one question is that I always thought when companies bought back shares of their own stock that that is supposed to be good for the shareholder and the price ought to go up a little bit.  As I understood the Supply is going down so technically people ought to be paying more to own the fewer shares available.  But that doesn't seem to happen (at least not to the guy holding at $127.00).  So if it doesn't really cause the price to go up for us Shareholders why does Apple keep buying back shares?  Perhaps they can spend that money on something else?  Please don't make too much fun of me for asking this naïve question.

So thank you in advance for any insight and understanding.

It may take a while but I think your investment will pay off in the long term.

Yes buying back shares will eventually help the stock price but not always right away.

This is just my guess but I think Apple will be worth $300 in 10 years. Think long term.  Traders almost always lose money in the market.  Long term INVESTORS make money and wealth and save a ton on taxes also.  If you believe in the company just hold the stock and don't worry about the stock price day to day.  I'm holding over 1000 shares and I'm not sweating one bit.
    Now that is rich.
